Anyone have experience of both of these? I'm after a new bag for bivvying, next out a week friday so could be around freezing (I would probably give it a miss if it was much colder).

Would a 600 be OK for this, or better to go for 800? Is there really a noticeable difference between the two?

BTW when I bivvy I usually feel the cold because I'm pissed.

800 easy choice...can always dangle a leg out if warm.

I am having the same dilema ...but will probably go with the 600 as it seems ok for 99% of the UK weather . If its a bit colder I have a liner and if its in a bivi bag it helps as well but the main thing for me is its packed down size is slightly smaller.

800.

If you buy the 600, the first night you can't sleep because you're too cold, you'll kick yourself.

Don't be fooled by the ratings. 0 degrees is cold weather to be sleeping outside on the ground.

It was -1 when I was in Glencoe a few days ago and I still had layers on inside my 800.

I always work on the basis of getting a bag which is slightly overkill, which means i'm more likely to sleep well when i'm tired/hungry/pissed etc....or the weather turns bad unexpectedly.

To be fair though, an extra couple of layers on in the 600 will probably have the same effect, but it just means carrying and potentially dirtying more kit.

Ta, gone for the SH800 on the basis of better safe than sorry. Its only an extra 200 grams and only slightly larger (hardly noticeable on a beam rack), which I reckon will be worth the extra comfort.
