So, contacted a company’s customer services to ask if one of their products was likely to be back in. This was the reply:

Yes indeed they are both discontinued at the moment but our team will be getting them back in stock in the near future

Is it just me or is that completely ambiguous? Have asked for clarification x2, got the same reply first time and am now being ignored.

Just want to check I’m not being stupid before I take to SoMe.

Seems fair enough to me, perhaps they can't put a timescale on their return for some reason?

No longer available or produced, but back in stock very soon? Yeah, fair enough then.
I'd be going elsewhere to be honest.

@sc-xc So why not just say ‘not discontinued, just don’t know when they’ll be back in stock’ which is clearer?

They’re only up the road which is one of the reasons I buy their stuff.

Might be worth ringing them on Tue and having a whinge?

Have you been conversing with a real person or an automated system?

Could the SKU you want be discontinued, but it’s replacement (a new version, for example) be coming soon?

@Phil_H As far as I can tell, a real person.

@tomhoward Part of my initial enquiry was to ask, if the thing I wanted wasn’t coming back, what the alternative was. Silence on that one.

it’s replacement

Its replacement.

It's = shortened form of it is or it has

Its = something belonging to it.

I have a car. It's red. Its wheels are round.

Ambiguous re the discontinued bit, but the 'will be back in stock soon' is pretty definite?

Not sure I'd be going too hard at the SM on that, just enquiring.

The only thing is that one of the two currently unavailable products has been taken off the website, rather than just showing as out of stock (which maybe isn’t a shock, minty blueberry flavour isn’t for everyone) which makes me wonder about the veracity of that part of the answer.

That’s just someone sufficiently illiterate that they think discontinued is a synonym for out of stock.

Aye, probably.

I’d have thought that being able to write coherent English was an important part of customer facing jobs, and then I saw the first draft of a press release one of our comms team wrote 🙄
