No idea what brought it on, but I've been having pain in my Achilles for over 6 months. Seems to get worse if I've been sat down for any length of time. Goes from being bearable to (like tonight) excruciating.

Can anyone point me towards stretching or other treatments. Haven't been to gp just been self medicating but I naively thought it would have sorted itself by now.

Depends what's causing the pain. Tough to assess on a forum, I'd either go to the GP or see if your trust let's you do a self referral to see a physiotherapist (that's where your GP will be sending you anyway)

Is it cycling or running that has brought it on?

where is the pain - low/high/mid ?

("at rest" seems an odd time for the pain - do you press down on your feet/toes when sitting?)

I had achilles tendinopthy from a running accident and for me the pain was worst after periods of rest (first thing in the morning was the worst). After a couple of terrible physios I ended up embarking on the eccentric loading programme and I'm now back to running 3 miles twice a week.

I wouldn't suggest you dive in but speak to a GP or physio and see if the programme is something that suits your particular injury.
