Some old skool roots stuff. In a similar vein to the Winstons Amen Brother, here is a short funky drum solo from Clyde Stubblefield. DnB fans will like it I think

There's loads from old Funk records. The Amen break did get royally rinsed to death! I've got over 400 in REX format!

There was a few from James Brown, Soul Pride, Funky Drummer, Funky President and Give it up.

The Think break (Lyn Collins), Assembly Line (Commodores) and Apache (Michael Viners Incredible Bongo Band) are some of my favourites.

Underrated:

Another bit of trivia for you pop pickers! The famous jungle bird sound that crops up in the above (albeit pitched up) and has been used extensively in film, tv and video games for ambience is a field recording of a North American Loon!

Hmm. Starts ok, not sure about that pea-in-a-can sound that comes in half way through.

Someone left a bunch of flowers in the kitchen here - using a Hospital Records mug as a vase! I was like huh?

One of my brother's releases on Flex, I remember him ringing me from Music House in London, "should I sign for Flex or Formation Records?" FORMATION FORMATION FORMATION, he signed for Flex gah.

DJ Trace - The Mutant revisited. Hard and unapologetic

DJ Trace - the mutant revisited

still makes me leap around the kitchen pining for the late 90’s Leeds DnB scene

This is a link to my local radio station here in Perth. They have the weirdest scheduling, but Wednesday at 3pm is the drum and bass show. Much to the annoyance of my office chums.

Anyway, it's a 2 hour show highlighting some decent local producers and world talent too.

They are also playing in Northampton on 1st Feb and I am child-free that weekend. Not sure I can be bothered though. I know exactly what will happen as I can't be trusted. I'll start off with good intentions and end up leaving in a sweaty gurning mess, then spend the next week filled with regret and self loathing at my inability to say no.

In the words of Murtaugh - I'm getting too old...

That Calibre remix is so good. I've been listening to Calibre's Essential Mix this week and that is one of the highlights.

Anyway... Thread bump. What bangers have been floating round your lug holes of late?
