What is a "sweatie" - that is a racial epithet that has passed me by.

Cockney rhyming slang ... Sweaty Socks = Jocks

Threads, we do need to stop talking about England, we are out. =More interesting to debate if Ireland or France could make the final to avoid it being a RSA or NZ vs Australia showdown

From the touch line it looks bad from the other side he does bind! See many as bad every game.

And in that footage Brown very lucky not to be talked to about the initial tackle - pick and dump style.

+1

Just shows how much the Aussies had England rattled. I actaully think there is a decent England team somewhere (unfortunately) but right now they aren't beg game players.

So Warburton vs Pocock should be some turnovers and space to counter attack. And England did show that at times you can get around the Aussies, so if Wales are to win they need to execute well and take their chances. Not sure how Wales will manage in the scrum, i.e. manage not to give away a lot of penalties.

Wales cannot beat Australia if both sides play like they have been doing

Why not? Were England any good V Aus? Fiji v Aus and Wales were about the same if we excuse Wales fading badly after the 5 day turn around. Wales have about as much chance of beating Aus as they have of beating SA. Which isnt much but they could do it. I'm sure if I go back a month you were massively confident of England beating Wales too. Hopefully Wales will keep it tight and not play into Pococks hands like England did.

Why save ourselves for SA? When we could beat Aus and get Scotland or Japan? Most likely we will lose our next two games but seeing as we are in it we might as well try.

You are forgetting that Wales can't beat OZ, it's in the IRB handbook. NMB, I don't need a thicker skin, people need to stop using racist terms.

If Wales go for it properly against Australia, Gav might end up getting a call up for the QFs. 🙂

Got to be honest AA and I don't see any binding going on 😆

Is calling me and other Welshies sheep shaggers racist or just rude?

Well I think anything can happen and there is precedent for that. Remember France in (insert year of world cup) played like donkeys all the way through then came right for the last two games.

Wales recent record against the Aussies is far better than against SA or the AllBlacks. 2 wins and a draw for Wales over the last 10 years, hardly amazing but there is the odd win here and there.

Is "pom" a racist term ? I probably use that too much. Are there any racist terms for kiwis ? We get sheep-shagger a bit, but that's just the weird folk in the south island.

@hels Kiwi is racist as its a daft looking bird, much like half of Liverpool 😉 We where known as five-pound-poms, it never bothered me. I took mild offence to being called a pommie-b'stard but it wasn't the word pommie I took offence at

@namaste I think some people take offence to the sweaty reference implying all Scots smell, I can understand that

I appreciate your logic but Aus are playing better than RSA and England where much better than Wales for 70 minutes even with the wrong side. It's my 6 pence Wales have zero chance against Oz and if they try and front up they will be totally done in come the QF. Of course I also predicted England would win the group 😳

Ha ha ha, you keep telling yourself that!!! Aside from the obvious England were only 7 points ahead after 70mins. And england were laughably naive v Aus. Wales might get humped but it wont be because we play fast and loose and go wide early.

England were better than Wales for 35 mins, after that they wilted. You need to catch up, it is all about why the charge on Brown was a red card now!

Mixed feelings about the england selection. Delighted to see Slade and Care get a run, disappointed that Farrell, Youngs, Cole and Goode are in. I saw a comment about them not starting a specialist centre; barritt is the only specialist inside centre they took! A backline of care, ford, slade, JJ, may and watson with brown at Fb could have been fun. Why on earth don't they give george and brookes a proper run?
Following the worst performance by an england team in history, they still haven't learnt a thing. Dickheads.

Crackingly sparky game between Fiji and Uruguay, loving the feisty spirit in this world cup, only spoiled by Paloma killing a great song!!

Yeah but in the greater scheme of things it hardly matters.

That quote could be applied to all of SL's selections.

EDIT - all of AF's selections. 😉

I think the game lasts for 80 minutes doesn't it?

I think Steve Hansen pointed out in the wake of his side's last gasp win against Ireland that a try scored in the last minute was worth just as much as one scored in the first.

France, since I have £20 on them at 20/1.

Yes yes of course the game lasts 80 mins but it's basic tactics and match play to close out such a game. It should have been a routine win. If Australia play as well again they will demolish Wales, they beat England with some very fine attacking play and not much we could have done tactically would have changed it. Game was already lost by the time of the Hooper / Brown incident. However well we played in the 2H Oz where not going to be held scoreless.

France are always fascinating to watch as you are never sure what side is going to turn up. Looking forward to Sunday, whoever wins is odds on to reach the semi, then who knows. For those two teams the dream is very much alive

Why?

No, they beat england because they destroyed you at the breakdown. Had england played tighter and kept the breakdowns closer to the tight five they would have done much better. Every time you got in their 22 they turned you over.

I've got South Africa in the office sweep stake but, as above, I think France will win it. Allez les Bleus.

Good to see Jambalaya taking England's defeat well. Expect to see the attempted murder of Mike Brown grow as a reason for their entire campaign going to pot quite soon.

I think that's old thinking as now France are just bish, bash, bosh and quite limited in many areas. Still they'll beat Ireland who always choke.

What does France's run to the final look like if they beat Ireland this weekend?

Personally, I think it'll be an Aus v NZ final, with Aus storming into a lead, but NZ coming back to be the first side to win back to back WC's.....and well deserved it'd be imo, the current NZ is just something else!

They'd have ARG in the QF which, looking at them, is bloody far from a gimme. They've looked very strong IMO.

I'm hoping that they peak about 5 mins into the Welsh game with 19 phases of stunning running rugby which ends in a ruck where Pocock gets a red for tip-tackling Warbs, at the same time as Foley and Beale run into each other leading to them being replaced. (Note I'm making no predictions about whether Wales can win the ensuing 85mins... 😆 )

Oh well at least Warbs wasn't the last person to be red carded in a World cup as the Uruguayan scrum half managed to get binned slightly idiotically last night. Decent game the Uruguay vs Fiji one, Uruguay put up a really good effort.

You think they are that good? Without wishing to disrespect England, I thought they flattered Aus. Its true the breakdown perfomance was great at producing turnovers but I thought the rest of it just looked good because England were so lost. If they had put that perfomance in over SA or NZ then I'd be impressed, but beating England doesn't make you awesome.I'm sure they'll beat us, but I'm not convinced about the whole tournament.

I think they are a good bit better than wales, so an emphatic yes to that part.
Never mind the england game, that team has quality running through it, rugby champ winners, recent beating of NZ and they'll be feeling pretty good with the beating of england and wales and a pretty decent route through to the final.
England have been in absolute disarray the whole tournament, and only lost to wales by 3 points.

Or looking at it from the Welsh perspective, England lost to a Welsh team who had the worst scrum of the 21st century and without key players in key positions. A team that beat England with 3rd choice subs on the field playing out of position, at Twickenham, with a ref who arguably should have given England another two yellows.

Lucky they weren't playing against a decent Welsh team with a brave ref. 😉

Australia are the best team in the tournament based on the games I've seen. Only NZ come close and they were very sloppy in the two games I've seen them play.

SA haven't impressed at all with a loss to Japan and a win over Scotland who offered little.
