Alright, I've just started an attempt at 25 laps of the volcano circuit. If anyone fancies joining up for moral support.

Well done Weeksy, you deserve a beer and a rest

I'll pick up the baton and setup a row for 18.30 Tuesday night if folks want?

I'm not over familiar with the routes but will try find something flat ish we can pitch for a few laps in an hour.

If enough people fancy the hare and hounds idea me and dangeourbrian could sort it between us?

Road to Ruins with a 10min headstart for c&d?

Was riding outside today. Sounds like I missed a tough one.  Another cheers to Steve for setting these up and herding bees. Never done a H&H but up for whatever it is!

oop north

Best try calibrating again and see if it makes a difference. What trainer have you got?

I've got a Tacx Flow (the cheap Halfords one).
I calibrated it after the last ride and after this. The result is consistent, so I think it's pretty much there.

Tough to say, you can only take the word of the Apps if no other option.

Yeah, at the end of the day I have to assume the turbo and calibration app are ok.
A couple of mates have turbos, so could try theirs after the lockdown.

I'm not that fit to be honest and the current pace/power is more like as I'd expect than a couple of weeks ago.

Might look at a Swift training plan...

I'd be up for hare and hounds definitely. We could stick Hare or hound into our name and have different jerseys...

It's only an extra hour and a half to tick the century afterwards...

Really enjoyed the first 3 laps, went for it and hit my highest wattage to date and that seems to be too much for my tacx vortex and it crapped out, just cruised round for 30 mins to finish the hour, never mind

Right, the time for a racing lap of Road to Ruins is roughly an hour so if we say a 6 minute headstart that's 10%. This is pretty much a stab in the dark but it's something to work off if we ever do a second attempt!

If everyone who wants to enter makes sure they're following me over the next day or so I'll send a load of invites out. Only accept and enter if you want to be in the hare group, ie cat c/d/e (or no idea) and being chased.

I'll set the time for 1830hrs and shall we say the basic red & black Jersey with (STW Hare) in your name?

Then if someone from the hounds doing the chasing, so cat a/b, (or no idea but confident!) sets up an event for 1836hrs and everyone wanting to chase puts (STW Hound) in their name and the usual bumblebee Jersey.

Then it's a straightforward team pursuit to the finish, first team to get someone over the line wins.

That should work shouldn't it, or have I missed something?

Can’t we all be in the same meet up but the hounds set of 6 mins later? Otherwise we won’t all get the group messages or know when you are catching. If it is one group everyone is visible on the map.

That is a very good point - we'll do that instead!

Same deal with names and jerseys Hares/Red, Hounds/Bee but everyone join the same event. I'll send invites tomorrow evening to give people time to follow me.

I should be able to make this - I think I follow you

From what I understand, most are C&D cats which means a big group of hares .. work together and you will be very difficult to catch.

Pretty sure there are not too many A&B cats .. and from what I see on ZP very few of those are pushing A&B cat power for the longer 30-40km distances .. so the hounds group will be a very small group of riders🥵

There's a couple of decent little climbs in this where I'm expecting the hounds to make up quite a lot of time so hopefully it should be quite close.

I’m in, I’ll have to be a Hare and I’ll be that Gazelle that gets eaten first while Attenborough narrates.

“The Hunter always picks off the weakest and slowest of the herd...”

I think I can make this. Not sure which category I’m in as this is all relatively new to me but it’s definitely not an A or B so I’ll be a hare. Slightly apprehensive though at the prospect of what, on the face of it, looks like a one hour long team time trial.

Think of it this way :

It's definitely not a 2 hour long TT

I think of it as being the opposite of a time trial - you're not trying to be quickest, you're trying to be first...

We want to go as slow as possible whilst keeping enough of a margin to get one person across the line first!

Ivan, I fancy this one too. I’m a B so will join the Hounds, just hope I can hang in the pack/swarm when the fast ones are at full chase.

I’ve modified name and sent you a follow request - Southside Johnny on Zwift.

If there are a couple longish hills it can help - as long as there are atleast 3-4 decent climbers at top to carry on the pace.

How many in hounds group so far?

So far hounds look like being...

Phil56
DrP
DKNwhy
JR
Dangeourbrain

But that's only based off what's been said in the thread so far - half a dozen would be a strong chase group anyway so if we end up with those guys plus a couple more it should be an interesting race.

I'll create the event later tonight then we'll know a bit more tomorrow.

In H&H is the idea not for anyone to be caught at all, or for at least one of the group to escape?

Also what constitutes C&D? (Though I’m definitely not an A or B)

Finally what is the basic red and black jersey?  I’ve got no ones with red in, only orange.

So for this experiment we're going to go with the idea being for the hares to get at least one person across the line before the hounds catch them. If they get more than one then great but one's the aim.

Categories are based on ftp/weight in kg
A = 4.0 w/kg and above
B = 3.2-3.9 w/kg
C = 2.5-3.1 w/kg
D = 2.4 w/kg and below

Red jersey is Basic 5.

You'll need to update your zwift name with hare or hound ahead of the event and I'll sort the event in a bit.

I would say road bikes but we could do a cheeky bike swap once we hit the dirt and go for the mtb if we think it's worth the trade off in time...

I'm giving Tuesday a miss this week too, looks like it's set fair weather wise and I fancy getting out in the fresh air again.

Hmmmm - on my app it says 5 but googling it says it's Basic 2. Should be red and black.
