My family will be in Zermatt again next year, for a late-season ski holiday in early April. I was skiing last year, but couldn't help but see MTBs everywhere.
I know that the high-up stuff will all still be covered in snow... but is there anything worth a look further down, or within a reasonable radius?
I would be happy to ski again, but Zermatt is a bit steep for me. (I'm a an XC MTB'er and skiing around here feels like steep DH'ing all day long!).
There are trails that run down the valley to Tasche, St Niklaus and Visp. I've ridden them a few times and generally they aren't technical. They roughly follow the train tracks. Expect to be gawped at by thousands of tourists on the Glacier Express.
Shame you're missing the epic stuff high up in Zermatt! The run down from Gornergrat is a giggle.
