[#1232385]

Attempted to fit a nice new RaceFace bashring to my XT 770 crankset yesterday. Wasn't expecting it to be a problem to be honest (have fitted bashrings/replaced chainrings before on other Shimano cranksets). However, to my absolute amazement each bolt rounded without any great amount of force being placed through it...

I've now got 4 rounded bolts so will have to presumably drill them out and replace them with some sensible strength bolts.

Anyone else suffer this before? Best way of getting said rounded bolts out? I'm honestly amazed the bolts were such poor quality strength wise.

Never had a problem myself, you wasn't using a hex instead of a torx key eh? 😉

C*ck, c*ck, c*ck, c*ck, c*ck... i used a T25 torq bit... 👿 Why couldn't Shimano just have kept 5mm allen bolts like on previous cranksets... much simpler!

Oh well, will have to take the drill to them then...

The fact that a t25 goes in like throwing a sausage in an alley And your carried on to do all 4 :o. When i was making my merida into an ss with my basic toolbox i have the flat - left most of tools at parents. I stuck a t25 in and it turned about a third of a turn before it hit the faces so i decided ill go get a t30 before i **** this lol

Well if I'm lucky there might still be enough material on the bolts for a T30 bit to get a good grip, I'll borrow one from my lbs and see if it does the trick.

I'll still be replacing them with some 5mm allen key chainring bolts though! 🙄

trail_rat - on a completely unrelated matter, I've just seen you've done remarkably well at the Puffer. Just wondering on how you structure your training regime - miles per week, road vs mountain bike, long distance training miles vs short intervals etc. Any guidance very welcome!

possibly not the best person to ask right now

im kinda milling along atm just doing what i can when i can.

I generally follow getting on the bike every day during the week and a long ride at the weekend .

Ive ridden SS exclusively this winter and try to throw in short course races for intensity.

But nothing "structured" yet - thats about to come - just been accumulating milage atm

working out about 600k a month since relentless - significantly lower than previous years but in smaller doses per week and riding for an hour harder twice a day rather than doing a 2 hour lump slower

Trying to regain some composure after a bad year of injury last year !

Anyone can aspire to mere failure. But you failed with commitment and style, and then told the internet about it. Magnifique.
