Vanilla just means basic/simple.

vanilla = normal, the default, simple etc.
As opposed to the all singing all dancing, more complicated forks in the rest of the lineup.

You'll hear vanilla used to mean the same thing elsewhere. I s'pose it's like ice cream, innit?
