I appreciate that this is a mountain bike forum but I picked this up yesterday with the intention of doing more riding so I can enjoy the mountain bike more. Just got back from a little spin this morning and really enjoyed it.
Lapierre Audacio 200.
Thanks to Drew at Rutland for his patience and advice.
Matt.
Road bikes are ace. Looks like a good'un, enjoy. ๐
Road bikes are mint - think he has put the wrong chainset on it though ๐
i was about to say prepare to be ripped about the triple, but it's already started i see
looks nice though
wait til they spot the pedals, too
nice.
I too picked up my first road bike yesterday. An 8 year old cannondale off ebay although it's practically brand new, it seems to have had very little use.
I've just come back from my first nervous spin on it, using the drops is going to take some getting used to. A road bike seems a good way to show how unfit you are (or me anyway)! Really enjoyed it though.
Tripples are for people who live in hilly areas - wish I had once rather than a compact today ๐ฏ
Oh want some second hand road pedeals Castrol?
MTB pedals & a triple, bet you ride with a peak on your helmet as well??
Nice looking bike though, hope you get plenty of enjoyment out of it-road bikes are ace.
I've got a spare pair of Shimano SPD R540's if anyone needs/wants a set.
Triples are for the alps.........or just run a 39x27
Enjoy the bike...looks nice
Tripples are people who look after their knees!
(Run double myself but sneak in a 12-27)
Road bikes are great esepcial when trails are gloopy - you just get on the roadbike to local villages.
Road bikes rock ๐

I'm not surprised. Try flipping the stem & levelling the bar. ๐
if i flip the stem the bars will be lower, I certainly don't want that. That photo makes the bars look more tilted up than they actually are but I will try and rotate them forward a little bit.
Road bikes are becoming more popular on this site me thinks ...
I love mine.
triples are for those with girly legs. And who eat mung beans.
You try doing a 25% hill with a double I dare you ๐

I rode Mow Cop in the Cheshire Cat Sportive earlier in the year, it's 30% up the top, I was having to weave my way through people falling off sideways, people pushing.
One guy looked across at me in my 39:23 lowest gear and wailed "oh that's just not fair!"
Doubles rock. ๐
Somewhere there is a pic of me on it but this'll have to do for now...
Hehe. Just done some Alpine cols on a double - I'm going with a triple next time ๐
> One guy looked across at me in my 39:23 lowest gear and wailed "oh that's just not fair!"
You're a riding god though James ๐
How long is that climb?
How long is that climb?
1500m in length, about 170m height gain.
It starts fairly steady (10-15% ish) with a couple of bends in the middle then flattens out a fraction before kicking up in 200m long dead straight ramp of 25-30% gradient.
It's &searchp=ids.srf&mapp=map.srf]HERE if you want to try it. ๐
Erm on second thoughs - nah - Found it hard enough today doing Widdecombe and Dartmeet - ๐
I have one on its way in the next few days ๐ Specialized Langster, bought a ss as it'll force me to work harder and tbh I can't be bothered with the faff of gears on another bike! We don't have any good off road round here so I was always making a compromise with my tyre/pressure on the mtb to make it work well for road, now I don't have to ๐
if i flip the stem the bars will be lower, I certainly don't want that
but it's a road bike not a MTB.
You're into the subtle look then, stoney?
You're into the subtle look then, stoney?
mmmmmmm absolutley! ๐
I did mow cop on a 39 /25. tough going, but by no means impossible. personally i think hardknott is tougher, but again, very doable
Ah yes... while we are on the subject of steep hills and big gears.....
I have rode Honister, Newlands, and Kirstone (from Ambleside, the "Struggle") They are all 25% in places.... on an old school 42/21..... ๐ฏ
Twas in my younger days though and i`ve since learnt the Lance Armstrong way of cadence ๐
All,
Thanks for the comments....
I knew I should have photoshopped the triple out, and was already prepared for a slating ๐ .
I can honestly say that I didn't use it this morning though. Oh yes the pedals too, ok I can't stretch to another set of shoes and pedals at the moment but will do over time.
As for mung beans... pk-ripper, you been looking through my kitchen window, thought I'd kept that a secret ๐
Regards,
Matt.
Here's my (relatively) new road bike too. Main tubes are alu - seat stays and fork carbon - and it seems pretty good so far. Nice and stiff.

You try doing a 25% hill with a double I dare you
Surrey Legs of Steel on a 53/39. so don't need the dare as already done it.
re triples are for Alps. Most alpine roads aren't that steep - they just go up for a long time. Triple is more useful for UK
I copped out and went for the compact.

Does anyone still ride a mountain bike? How long until a 'who looks the fattest and stupidest in their lycra' thread?
Me too! Me too!
54/42, none of your nancy boy 53/39 here pal.
The inexorable slide from SingletrackWorld to MAMILworld continues...
