Looking to get some rook bars to mount bike carriers on my Beemer. Any tips on brands and best places to buy. Was thinking of Thule or BMW branded ones (Which I think are also Thule). anything else to look at?

I have seen lots of generic looking ones on ebay / amazon shops for much less money. Are they $hit?

Roofbox.co.uk unless Halfords have an offer on.

Worth looking at Atera ones too if available, always used Thule before but impressed with Atera this time round.

Exeter roof racks are now the cheapest.

However Tredz couldn't be beat recently for Wingbars on the Golf

I just bought a set of Cruz bars and mountings for my 3 series from Roofbox.co.uk. Bit fiddly to fit but very happy with them,

Just enter your reg there and they will so you the right options.

Thule for me - mine  must be 15 years old and refuse to die, and I have two bike racks of same vintage that are just showing signs of wearing. Our rear rack is 10+ years old, and same too is showing some wear after weekly use with us for last 4 years.

Thule Wing Bars - I have the correct adapters for the foot pack if  they are any use.

Work out from Thule what parts you want/need, Bars, foot pack and adapters. Then search on ebay and gumtree. I got wingbars, feet, adapters and a 591 bike rack for under £150 this way.

Most OEM are Thule - my Nissan are Thule Aero bars with the corresponding feet.  I also have 4 Halfords Advanced racks which I bought on BOGOF which are the Thule Freeride (talking over 10 years ago). - Used them all the time, no breakages in probably 13 years using both, with 4 bikes of varying sizes as the kids have grown up (fit narrow tubed classic steel road bikes, to modern fat tubed MTB's. I still have the same car, but the rack can go to a new car with a change of foot pack.  Quality is top notch, but heavy - takes two to lift onto the car. Not one issue carrying the bikes, even at excess of the speed limit with 4 bikes on the roof (don't ask about fuel efficiency at speed.
