A retro GT frame?

Currently got an old 90s frame set up as a SS commuter

Was considering making some adjustments to allow me to run it 1x9 (I've got an old drivetrain knocking around)

But given my experience with 1x10 I know I'll need something to stop the chain coming off.

Any ideas? It's a square taper bb with a 28.6 seat-tube and no iscg tabs. I'm presuming my only option is to go 3 x something as it was originally or just learn to pedal harder and keep it as a single speed

just cos you have a front mech in place, you dont have to add cable and shifter

The old MRP devices mounted behind the BB lock ring I think. Failing that cheapest set of HTII cranks & BB and a BB mounted device.
