I’ve been pondering on something cheap for a helmet light (because I’ve just paid a small fortune for an Exposure Max-D for on the bike!)
anyone using simple, high powered rechargeable torches? If so, how do you mount them on a helmet?
Ie something like this:
Are these sorts of things practical for this application?
Or just some cheap no nonsense alternative suggestions?
Exposure joystick 😉
Not cheap. But great value

I was looking at the Exposure Axis online - can be had for a decent price at the mo (around £130) but was hoping to spend under £100 ideally (just spent nearly £400 on the main light so now feeling strapped!)

Bingo. Averaged over the lifetime of the light they're great value.
@velocipede, become a STW member and get the 18% discount off Exposure.
I've had my diablo since 2017.
Wasn't cheap, but after 8 years it's cheap per year. It's been faultless
The mounts work well
It's also an excellent occasionall torch.
According to eBay it's still retained 50% of its value after all this time so if you bought a new one with the stw discount and decided you didn't need it you might get most of your cash back.
What price your crappy torches suddenly running out of batteries mid decent again? I got fed up of mine doing this and have been mostly happily riding once every couple of weeks since then
I know it's too late but i'd argue you'd have been better off saving £100 on the bar light and spent it on a Joystick
I’ve had a Raveman CR1000 for nearly two years now, works great, lasts just over 3 hours on full. Had an email from Tredz today, they are half price at £40 now, a pretty good price, though you need to buy the helmet mount separately. I recently ‘upgraded’ to a Chilli Tech Pro-cree, but I dont think its as good as the Raveman, so I’m changing back this week. Both linked below:
That Raveman looks interesting as a lid light. I have an ancient SolarStorm on the lid with a battery that isn’t that great anymore - not sure if this would be better or worse than what I have. The SolarStorm is bright when used with my Troutie Liberator bar light but I like the idea of no cables for a lid light and not sure I want to drop £150+ on an Exposure Diablo…
I have a magicshine 1500rn as a helmet light, it's 170g & pushing it weight wise. But it is an all in one which is what I wanted.
I must admit if I was buying new lights this year I would look at the Outbound Lighting that Bird have started importing - they look like the modern equivilent of my much loved Ay-Up lights.
(Annoyingly I threw them out cos the batteries were done, & mtb batteries now do replacement batteries)
