Hi all, next weekend I shall be in Ilkley (Saturday morning until Monday afternoon).

Apart from watching the Tour de Yorkshire go past Sunday afternoon what else should I do?

Can you recommend a MTB ride?

Stainburn is not too far up the road, or if you are happy to go a bit further afield go to gisburn.

From ilkley to Denton over to Ellercar, Timble Ings, Swinsty, Stainburn and Norwood and back via middleton moor or Round Hill. Cracking day out.

There's some good riding on Ilkley Moor. Best ridden when it's been dry for a while.

Sounds great 🙂

I'm going to have a couple of hours early Sunday morning. Any recommendations?

You could jump on the Skipton loop (Mentioned in the Skipton thread) at Bolton Abbey?

skipton loop is very ambitious for just a couple of hours, maybe do the fig of 8 I put up, starting at Bolton Abbey, think it takes me about 2.5 hrs but I'm not that fast. So you're not faffing around finding the way, you can use bikehike to plot the route for a gps.

Lemonysam - is that on road or off road? I didn't think you could do much off road north of Ilkley / Washburn Valley?

There's road links, particularly the first few miles, but mostly offroad.

There is loads of good singletrack that is dry on the moor, I don't ride much these days but basically just head up any track and take singletrack that comes off it, failing that get on strava and crib a route.

Then a pub crawl, Crescent, Bahtat and Flying Duck. Avoid the other pubs, they are average or worse...

For eats Bistro Saigon, Emporio Itallia or Monkmans, or Box tree if you are feeling flush!

There is not much else on offer apart from heading up into the dales walking or cycling... But generally that's why people are here right?

Looks like there's a fair amount to go at on Denton Moor/Middleton Moor, assuming that all the green dots (on a 1:25k OS maps) are all permitted and the odd cheeky to link here and there. It's an area I've never really explored on a bike cos I assumed it was all a bit disjointed.
Lemonysam's route looks to be something like this (or similar/part of)

If you mean Ilkley Moor, IMO you need to know it to get the best out of it, you could easily end up getting it all wrong and having a poor ride, just my opinion tho.

Yup, that plus a loop out to Norwood via swinsty and then either up to John o'Gaunts or just along past the reservoir to Stainburn and Norwood.

lemonysam, have you ridden round the Yorkshire Water trail at Timble car park? I know it's short, but is what's there good?

I haven't. I lived in/around Otley for years but moved away just before that lot was built.

it's mainly fire-road, with a couple of 'red' sections which aren't really, just a nice short descent with some man-made features like rollers, berms, skinnies etc.

I took my daughter around it last week - she loved it, it really helped her confidence on the bike.

Might help? I'm in Otley if you need any advice on routes over Round Hill etc.
