Will be working for a week near Insch/Alford, and thought I might as well take the bike and stay up for the weekend. Any suggestions for the best riding around there? One big wild day and one less big day would be good, to allow time for driving back south. I don't know the area well, but have heard Mount Keen is good, or otherwise Laggan Wolftrax if the weather is really bad?
Cheers!
laggan wolftrax isnt worth the drive from alford for anything other than the brain out riding it provides. OS maps of local area will provide much better VFM - look on the Ecurie neeps website for ideas.
mount keen / fungle road loop is worth it - but there is a bugger of a climb in the middle if you do it from the aboyne side. I always did it from the carpark in tarfside so the horrible climb was out the way first
the other big day out - loch muick , bachnagairn loop down into glen doll , nip doon the glen to clova bar for lunch then back over the lochnagar and down by the lodge. - bit of hike a bike but if you time it right you can get a walker free descent of the scar trail down to loch muick
