Just installed a Juicy 3 on my bike and it doesnt feel very responsive. The lever has a lot of travel and when the brake bites it doesnt seem to bike very hard, even travelling at low speeds takes a while to slow down.
Im assuming the system needs bleeding, or could it be something else?
If it is a bleed do I just follow the same process as for Juicy 5s/7s?
That would be my starting point.
Yes.
Thank you kindly
Yeah, sounds just like a bleed will sort things out.
The Elixirs that came on my new bike were well spongy with loads of lever travel and when I bled them a heap of air came out.
I think the bleed procedure's the same for all of them....
chuffing nora...LBS wants £42 for a bleed kit 😯
brake didnt even cost that much
They are expensive - I think mine was £30 or so.
I am sure the last time that bleeding Avid's came up on here, someone mentioned that a Formula bleed kit works and is <£20, but someone more knowledgeable might be able to confirm....
try zip tieing the lever to the bar overnight first to get the air up to the resevoir.
It mentions the formula kit here:
http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/avid-juicy-5-bleeding
and a search for " avid bleed formula kit" threw up various other mentions of avid/formula bleed kits being compatible.
I always try to borrow someone else's bleed kit. Only need it a couple of times a year and I'm a bit of a tight wad.
According to a thread on Southern Downhill some bloke made his own using syringes, aquarium air line and some M5 hose barbs (whatever the hell they are).
If finding those M5 whatsits proves difficult then Ill go for the Formula kit instead.
