Did it in 2000 or so. We stayed in B&Bs. Bloody hard work but very rewarding, a chance to really get off the beaten track. Took us 8 days finishing at the tip of Worms Head peninsula. When I say 7 days, we were all pretty fit and experienced mountainbikers and we didn't mess around. It's harder than you might think. Especially day 1 from Conway which took us 10 hours including lots of carrying through bogs. B&Bs sound like the 'lightweight' option, but it was great at the end of the day to wash and dry kit. I Guess it depends on the weather when you do it.. but it is Wales. All the B&Bs we stopped in were very accomodating and let us wash bikes/kit etc.

Unfortunately the itinerary has been lost in the mists of time... Barca off these parts attempted it last year with a trailer... he gave up after day 2 I think but he may have a better idea of itinerary.

If the last 2 years are anything to go by then May would be a good time for it. Last Aug' me and another did something along the same lines. It p1ssed it down for the whole week. The weather combined with the odd mechanical saw some long days become very long days ... the worst been a 12 hour slog which was finished off in the dark minus lights. That section was on home ground too, so I knew where I was going. If I hadn't and was having to navigate fully then I reckon it would of been atleast a couple of hours longer.

Certainly don't underestimate it. I'm a guide/instructor and am often surprised how dismayed people are when they discover they've been riding for 3 hours and only covered 10 miles.

Good luck, you'll enjoy it.

Having ridden with my farherwasawolf (waves and wonders if my fatherwasawolf's father has any idea he was a wolf? ๐Ÿ™‚ ) when I first got in to this nonsense past time of cycling, I'm wondering if the routes we've taken are the same?
Admittedly, I'm a sight fitter and more capable on a bike now than I was then, by a massive margin actually as I was a complete beginner then but myfatherwasawolf could never be considered a slouch by anyone, my first attempt in 2008 was ditched after a couple of days due to to continous hammering rain.
I did it last year though. 3 and a (large) portion of a fourth day with trailer. I was riding pretty much 10 hours per day and with rest and food stops about 14 hours travelling per day, half an hour each morning and evening for a quick wash, chuck up the tent, eat, drink and sleep.
Dave (sorry, I forget your surname) from the Severn Deadly Spins project did it last year in 22 hours non stop.
It very nearly broke me in the time I did it. I'd love to do it again without pulling the trailer. Looking back, even thoug the trailer was near empty, I oould have cut back even further on kit and maybe have done it with a large backpack.
I was thinking about it this morning on my road ride which is quite a coincedence. I might give it another bash.

Nah, I remember how much it hurt, I'm not doing it again. No chance.

Hi Barca!

Has to be a different route! I was reasonably fit then, as were my two companions. Absolutely no way you could do the route we took in 22 hours. I might look into it again. It was organised by Coyote Chris but I can probably work it out... Yeah, we had a few mechanicals too. Worst of whcih was me snapping my rear axle on the long descent of the final day. Made it to a bike shop in Swansea luckily. The final night saw us crashing a hen party with a free bar. It didn't take too many drinks to destroy us after that week. ๐Ÿ˜†

I have to admit to being a tad surprised...I was banking on doing it in 4 days?

Are there a few routes?

We're doing the english C2C this year, but this route is on the list for next, so i'd be interested in finding out how you get on.

At last, someone with the ability to use Google. Yeah, that looks right. 270 miles in 22 hours offroad is pretty good going...

Yes, but the 22 hours wasn't done by someone 'normal'. Its probably going to be double that for us mere mortals.

Impossible for that route. 12.5 mph for 22 hours inc Snowdonia and the Black Mountains - and the bits in between? At the time I wasn't far off the front of expert and even elite races and it still took 7 long days!
