My Wahoo Roam v2 recently suffered a fatal blow to the screen so I’m looking at getting a replacement
instantly I’m looking at the Roam 3 as I quite like the wahoo system and it’s no frills, idiot proof “push start and go” interface
Getting close to pulling the trigger on one but I keep reading that the screen visibility is terrible and verging on unusable
if it’s of any comparison, I rarely had the backlight on the v2 whilst navigating and never found an issue with being able to read it, occasionally I’d have to push a button to light it up for 5 seconds just for a bit more clarity, but not very often, is the Roam 3 screen brightness / visibility comparable to the v2 in this regard?
If it IS as bad as people say, I might be swayed to looking at other systems, so also wondering on what some recommendations might be,
Id be after something with a long battery life, simple push start and go style ease of use, something about the size of the v2 as I wouldn’t want to go much bigger
I’m not particularly big on data, for the most part, where I’ve been, how long it took me to get there and how far it was pretty much covers it
Can anyone who owns a Roam 3 confirm / deny the screen brightness “issues” I keep reading about or maybe someone can recommend something different / better?!
TIA
I have a Roam V3 as warranty replacement for a V2.
I really miss the V2!
V2 much better screen visibility, slightly wider so better map field. The V3 links with Wahoo app rather than Elemnt app. Rides often don't automatically load onto app or 3rd parties. On the Elemnt app nearly always loaded immediately after finishing ride. Now often have to connect to wifi at home and turn app and device on and off a couple times before ride will load. I detest the admonishings of the app that 'you didn't do enough hard workouts' this week...
I have touch screen option turned off, seems to turn itself on at times which means you lose where you are on the map when you wipe a wet screen.
I haven't figured out why it turns onto the climb screen at times as have all segment options etc turned off.
Battery life of the V3 is great and it charges quickly.
I like the press and hold option to in / de-crease map size
Wahoo warranty and customer service is excellent.
Would you say the screen visibility should be a deal breaker?
I'm torn between getting the roam 3, getting another v2 or looking at other options
i figure software issues will be sorted at some point so I’m not overly concerned by that, it’s mostly the screen visibility that is nagging me, have read MANY things of differing opinions regarding how good / bad it is,
Is it really as bad / difficult to see as they say?
More Leaning towards another v2 at this point as I like the wahoo ecosystem and know it just works, if the visibility on the 3 is as bad as they say then I’m out but wondering how much of the negative reviews are possibly gauged against too high an expectation of a new thing
