Hi all
I have made the purchase and got my Norco Sight 71.5

http://www.norco.com/bikes/mountain/trail/sight-carbon/sight-carbon-7-15/

So the question is what upgrades and which priorities are next on the shopping list?

Your thoughs are welcome 🙂
Phil

On first look, wheels, IMO.

Other things (shifters, mechs etc) you can replace as you go and as they wear out.

That said, you may want to ride it first to get a feel for what you like and what you don't!

Cassette is an SLX which is heavy but am looking at the wheels ATM I think, but not sure which ones to choose. No rush as I'm out on the bike Saturday to see how it goes as standard.......

I may go 1x10 11 - 42 later

Any thoughts on wheels anyone?

Id just ride it as it is, get your money's worth out of the kit, then upgrade as they wear out. Thoee Shimano hubs are cup and cone and the chances are you'll wear them out quickly if you dont keep on top of them.

Ride it as is. You're not going to save a lot from the wheels without some serious spend so wait until something breaks. In a side note, SLX is the level groupset you get these days on a 3 grand bike? Wow.

Yeah atlaz I guess you pay for the carbon frame and take a hit on the spec. I was looking at the wheels because the feedback on them is that it is not a good rim to mount tubeless as it's not tubeless ready and the conversion has had a lot of trouble even causing some 'offs' and I want to go tubeless. Had it on my old bike but it had the XT wheelset which were great.

Thanks for all your thoughs people 😀

Why not use your old XT wheels then?

I would say ride it as it is (nice bike) but given your comments on tubeless wheels are the obvious change. As for he heavy cassette, really ? Keep that and ride it over summer and winter and if you really want switch it for something lighter next spring, but I wouldn't bother. Save money on upgrades and buy a nice bike box so you can take the bike on holiday 🙂

Rims are fine tubeless, not so good with maxis tyres. My HDs went up fine. Replace rest of kit when it wears out. Enjoy!

"Cassette is an SLX "
Its not. Its Deore
SLX is HG81, and biggest 3 on a carrier, about 25g heavier than XT

Oooh, wire bead tyres ....

Wire bead maxxis though, so that's not the deathknell it usually is.

Planning upgrades before you've ridden it is proper mental. I do it too, it's fine as long as you know 😉 I'd be doing the wheels.

Yep wheels for me too...drop back to 26" and you could lose even more weight. 😉

Not sure why they've used a SGS rear mech...I ran a GS perfectly with a 38/24?

Tires first, to Kevlar bead/ tubeless
Wheels second
Cassette third
Then rest of drivetrain as it dies.
Then the fork.

Thanks for everyone's input here! Well worth putting the question forward... And the wheels are my first option (Tyres already done 😉 ) but reassuring to know that we all seem to agree.

Now which wheels to choose........suggestions on a postcard please 🙂

Spend £4,400 on a Santa Cruz and you'll be rocking Deore!
