[#4829357]

Getting a new frame and the original plan was to swap all my kit over including my SRAM x9 gears.

But thinking maybe it's worth treating the new frame to a whole new drive train.

So I guess I would need:

New cassette
New rear mech, I like the idea of a new clutch mech.
New shifters
New chain
New front mech
And presuming I need new cranks/chain rings. I currently have a race face atlas setup.
Are 9sp and 10sp front chain rings different widths?

Was going to go XT throughout.

Another reason for upgrading is I believe the new frame (tracer 2) will be best running 2 rings up front rather than 3. Will 3 even fit?

Using a 9 speed ring up front and it works fine with a 10 speed chain. Don't know if it would work ok with 3 rings though, can't see why not.

do you really need that extra gear? on the same ride do you ever think i need a easier gear for this bit and a harder gear for that? if you just need either easier and harder and not both just get a different chain ring?

or if you just want some new shiny stuff i recommend the zee stuff. nice enough looking and decent prices

For me I like it and yes the clutch system is very nice indeed. I've got buddy's who like it but are finding that there waring the chains and cassettes out very quick 600miles or so but then there not very pro cleaning so that could be why ๐Ÿ˜†
I'm quit a heavy fellow and I've broken two chains with out effort used 9speed quick links to fix no issue with them.
No people who run both 9/10 speed rings on the cranks but at a guess better shifting etc 10speed would be best and at least you only need new rings for your atlas cranks so that should help save a wee bit of money.
Ok only other thing I have seen is the tracer2 my lbs built one up just a week or so ago and there was an issue with crank alignment on a new xtr crank he reckoned that it needed a longer axel. It was a trail one 26/38 and only had about 2mm of space on the rear triangle and you could press the crank and touch it very easy and about 3 on the non side probable worth checking out anyway for peace of mind before you buy new or use old cranks etc.
ramble over and enjoy the new build which ever way you go.
Bats.

Clutch mech is nice, but tbh I'm not sure I'd bother for a 2 or 3 ring setup unless I thought I might want to try running a single ring sometime in the future.

Thanks for the advice so far.

I thInk I am going to need a new front mech anyway as my current one is a standard 34.9 and I believe the tracer is a direct mount. Looking at the design of the frame with the VPP it doesn't look like a 22 ring will clear it very well.

Interesting about the clearance with the crank arms and rear triangle.
The spec says the frame uses standard 73mm bb spacing so shouldn't need a longer axle.

Yes that's another option to go single ring up front but want to be able to pedal it round all day.
