Just been riding in the Alps with a couple of guys on them and they we're flying, and very satisfied. Amazingly light too, for what you're getting in terms of travel. No issues at the end of each riding day, while other riders were rebuilding, fettling, tweaking, tightening stuff. I'd defo have one. Not in that colour though.

Was just looking at the speclist and price of the full builds and wondering which of the components is made out of diamonds 😯 Certainly not the deore cassette they stick on the pro2 hub...

If you are the kind of rider who worries about Deore cassettes then it's not the bike for you. If you love technical mountain biking then it is fantastic. 😀

Missing the point- it's on a Pro 2, so the deore cassette will rip up the alu freehub. Though are you going to tell me Joe Barnes has got a deore cassette on his? Apparently it's the bike for him...

Though fair to say, the spec is terrible for £3000. But I still want one

The freehub on the Pro II that came with my '07 Orange 5 has some nasty marks in it because of the cheap cassette that was fitted to it by Orange. Given that Hope say on the Pro II's product information that it should only be used with cassettes that have an alloy spider (such as XTs) it is a bit cheeky of Orange to spec bikes that have Pro IIs and more basic cassettes.

it's a neon yellow one. sunglasses at the ready.

I'll put whatever cassette I have spare on it - alloy spider or not - can't say I've ever noticed a difference in the ride quality of a chewed freehub compared to a non chewed one.

*All* oranges are the same as the old one surely? The only thing that happens is the price goes up.

tis a shame they had to drop the blood to bring this out, but on the flipside, blood frames for a grand make me very tempted (if only they were onepointfive headtube :S)

Similar, but with subtle tweaks on geometry etc. Best of both worlds - keep the classic good points, improve wherever there's room for it or to accommodate new technologies like shocks and seatposts. That's what product development should be all about - evolution. Not radical redesigns or marketing-led gimmicks. But then you need a great design to start with, which is what Orange has.

When you see an Orange 5 being ridden like this, you kinda wonder what anyone would need a Patriot for!

I'll bet my Patriot LT rides just as well as the latest model.

Combined with Fox 36s up front, the geo doesn't need tweaking one bit...

have Orange really dropped the blood from their range?...where are these bargin £1k bloods?

Especially liking the looks of the toptube on the new Patriot...infact the whole set-up looks pretty sweet.

It looks just like the 2008 model. Probably rides just like it too.

For the price I'd probably look at something by Canyon or Cube or anything else.

xiphon - you've got a point, but I suspect the new frame is more active and plush, and it might have a lower bb, and it might even be lighter as well as taking bigger forks. If you're happy with your LT though, cool. I had one and loved it, but I defo prefer my tweaked '08 Patriot.

That's a perfect point about Orange - it's plain wrong & I expect more from them. 🙄

I think if I see one more person say it's just the same as the old one I'm going to lose it. Hey, my C456 is basically just 3 triangles so it's the same as my 1991 Carrera.

Good to see these back out on the trails again.
Surprised when Barns on a video weighs it in just over 32lbs about
the same weight has the Alpine 160 ?

I've noticed in a few threads Orange owners seem to be singled out for abuse i have only seen given to BMW drivers.

My Patriot weighs 30.5lbs and goes up hill nicely 🙂

I wasn't complaining that it was the same as the old one - I was just asking if it anyone knew of the differences... Personally I'm chuffed to bits that they started making them again, I was upset when they stopped.

I reckon there are very few other bikes like it.

Speaking to the guys from Orange, the new Patriot is almost the same as the 2008 model, just larger headtube and some minor tweeks. Glad, cos I have a 2008 Patriot. 😆

Anyone thinking of getting a 2011 Patriot, might want to consider a second hand 2008 model and save a few grand....

Did they really say that? Because it's mince, unless changing all the geometry and adding 20mm of suspension is a minor tweek. Slacker head angle, steeper seat tube angle, lower pivot... According to their own numbers anyway.

northwind, '08 patriots had 178mm travel so what we have here is same travel, iscg mounts, external cable routing, 1.5" headtube and 30.9mm seat tube. ie. everything I wanted to change on my patriot.

08 Patriot was usually supplied with, and recommended for, a 160mm fork, this one's designed around 180mm.

whilst I wouldn't disagree, over that time the fashion has been for head angles to get a couple of degrees slacker. Given that's the case, I wouldn't be surprised if the absolute head angle (ie for a given fork) is actually the same on both bikes. They've probably dropped the bb a little too..

Doesn't look like it is... But anyway, what's certain is that Orange's claimed geometry is pretty different and it's not just down to fork length, so either their numbers are all wrong or the 2008 is a pretty different frame.

Didn't like the old one with 180mm forks, the new one feels great with 180mm forks so i guess they must be different.

and we all know - newer = better 🙂

will put it next to an 08 patriot for comparison and see...

and I'll get mine on the scales when it's built up as well - I reckon it'll be around 35/36lbs - dual ply tyres and coil front and rear will bump it up.

I'll see if I can dig out a deore cassette as well - keep the weight up 🙂

Good that the Patriot is back, but as others have said, shame the Blood has gone. 36s on the front and a stupidly low BB are a fantastic fun combination. But, like most fun things, not that sensible which is I suppose is why they did not sell and have been dropped.
At £995 for a frame, grab a bargain before they are all gone. (Also the best looking Orange for ages, not that I am swayed by such things of course)

I run a 140-180mm fork on my Patriot, and I let it all the way out on decents. BB is quite high in general but I run more sag on the rear than normal to compensate.

Think the seat tube is now steeper for even better climbing. Not that the old one doesn't climb.
