Aye... Seemed mean to not let you do that 🙂
Heads up: We'll be starting to update the forum to v3.0 today. There may be oddities while we get it done.
There will be new features coming online like better search, performance improvements and some design changes. These will primarily be for the benefit of Full Members.
Ok.. I *think* free members should now be able to access their profiles now and access messages.
Yep, all "normal" links are working with an updated look, thanks
https singletrackworld com/user/timba/
I've edited the/ : and .so that it's in plain text
user/timba/ still accesses the "old" profile page with much less info, I don't know if you need that one now (access the long way around via "My Account" page (also Head&Shoulders dropdown))
Thanks again 👍
Subscribers: There's a new "Summarize Topic' button at the top of topics. Give it a try.
Use is limited to 5 or so summaries/day - we may increase that limit as we go depending on it's use.

Just tried on the Iran thread.
Reading topic posts.............Analyzing (American English spelling?) discussion...........Generating summary...........Almost ready.......
I gave up after nearly 5mins 😆
A.I/LLm summerising bollox.
Apart from that I have to say the forum seems to be a bit snappier...with a few exceptions
I tried it in the strength thread, which is a lot shorter than the Iran thread. The summary included: "The conversation is ongoing, with no definitive resolution."
Welcome to the forum, AI!
I just tried it on this thread.
[FILTERED] is this post by TheArtistFormerlyKnownAsSTR for some reason. Is it choking on "ass"? Uh, so to speak.
For those above stuck in the authorise ads loop, I've found the answer on Firefox at least. You not only have to disable the software that can't be mentioned (or authorise stw) but also allow pop ups in the Firefox general settings, just add https://singletrackworld.com to the authorised sites.
Has something changed with cookies? Or is it just me?
When clicking on the double right arrow icon at the end of the post topic, I'm not taken to last unread post. Behaviours seems random. A couple of random threads I did this on, took me to a random page part way thru the topic.
Having said that, I'm not sure what the expected behaviour is actually supposed to be...
Yup, on this thread I was taken to page 43 last time but to latest post this time.
Same as Vlad. On the 2026 psa thread I’m sent to page 6/10
I think the number of posts per page has changed and that has screwed the last post/last read post or whatever it is script if it now lands at the wrong page. Or something like that. It could alternatively be deleted posts causing a similar mismatch. Without seeing the scripts and data it's hard to know exactly.
Any idea why all my messges have dissapeared?
All i can see is a message about issue 166.
What's happened to the rest of them?
Ah, all mine have gone too!
-- Edit --
A couple of other things I've noticed, my website is being shown as http://singletrackworld.com/members/pjay/ but this gives a page not found error.
I notice that there's now a Delete Account button, it seems perilously close to the Edit Account Details so I hope suitable safeguards are in place should it be accidently clicked (I'm not going to test it).

I spotted that last night. You can edit it yourself, of course.
So no news on the missing messages then?
I've not used this place for months but I see not much has changed.
Indeed things haven't changed one bit.
Stuff that should work still doesn't and you still can't help but give unhelpful replys...
You might get a hard on about sofware upgrades and new hosts but it does nowt for me.
You're right, things haven't changed one bit. People still return after not using the place for months and immediately start whining.
My point was, they're in the middle of a major upgrade and you're getting antsy because you've snapped your fingers about missing messages and they haven't scrambled to resolve your desperately pressing issue inside of six hours. It'll likely be on their to-do list and it'll likely be subject to prioritisation with a lot of other stuff.
Honestly. 🙄 What "helpful reply" would sir deem acceptable?
OK, here's a "helpful" reply.
The old bbpress forum had messaging built in. WPforo does not, it's separate software. So, whilst I can only speculate as I'm not a STW developer, I would expect there to be a degree of exporting and importing required when migrating between different softwares. Further, I would expect any missing archives to be populated in due course. In case you missed it, the forum software was upgraded from v2 to v3 THIS WEEK, it was two days ago.
Better? You can always email Mark directly.
Yep as expected you can't help yourself can you...
As you pointed out you don't work for STW so why not just ignor any questions about stuff that's nowt to do with you.
A simple "yes we know and are working on it" from one of the STW team would have been nice as others seem to also have the same problem.
Hey ho. Membership runs out soon so no biggie.
Yes, but, 'A simple "yes we know and are working on it" from one of the STW team' is unlikely to happen in your expected timescales either because, for the third time, they're busy actually working on the site. Do you suppose they don't know and are going to ignore it?
I've given you a helpful reply and you're still not happy. I don't know quite what else I can say.
Sorry Stu.. Ive been at the dentist since I last posted.
Old messages are still in the system - we'll surface them for members soon. I did post that we were changing the messaging system over a month ago and that old messages wouldn't be available once we switch. I kept both systems running for a month so that old conversations could be finished.
Thank you for your reply Mark.
It's appreciated.
Cougar. Just wind your neck in will you.
If someone asking a simple question annoys you to the extent it seems to just ignor it.
If you hadn't come flying in with "I see nothing's changed" after not getting a reply for six hours then my tone would have been very different.
This thread really could do with splitting into two. One, simple clear announcements of things about to change from STW that no one can reply to so we don't have to be here every day and read every post and one for people logging issues that Cougar and other helpful people can reply to linking to thread one.
I think its been mentioned before about an exodus from the forum since the "upgrades" and its been played down but just looking at the bike sub-forum at the minute, its had 4 topics replied to in the last hour. I'm pretty sure pre-borkage that would have been comfortably into double figures as hundreds/thousands of workshy IT people like me would have been on here...
Messages in the old system are accessible again via your old profile. You can get tpo that by using this usrl https://singletrackworld.com/user/ when you are logged in. At some point we'll be retiring the software that creates that old profile so I'd encourage people to sue the new messaging system and download any old messages that you want to keep.
Has the 'go to latest post' button disappeared or am I being stupid?
Is it me or is it really, really quiet here? I'm inclined to suggest that we turn that widget back on that showed who was viewing the forum & individual threads. It might encouraged folk that it's worth posting.
Seems OK here.
Seems OK here.
Forum activity or the last post icon?
I can see the last post icon as previously, but as has already been mentioned it no longer seems to take you to the last post.
Free members have a delayed cache so won’t necessarily see the latest updates, I believe that is right. Still a very active fora.
Am I missing something? Apologies if it was on a post above but it takes a long time to load and the search function doesn’t work
Now my full has lapsed and I’m on a free member (and on the fence about resubscribing until the forum is fixed), can I no longer attach photos?
if so what’s the rationale behind that? Surely that drives even more people away? Free members contribute to the forum activity, more activity more likely to subscribe, etc ?
or is this a temporary thing with new update 3.0?
Now my full has lapsed... can I no longer attach photos?
Correct. Hosting on STW is a subscriber perk. You can still post photos, you'll just have to host them somewhere else and link to them.
What's the rationale? I don't know, but hosting generally costs a website actual money.
Mentioned before but pop up adverts don’t even give you the option to press an ‘x’ to close, they seem to pop up and without touching my screen a new webpage with whatever travel or rental car affiliates website. Pretty rubbish as I then have to close that and get back to the thread.
I think the general quietness and lack of forum activity is people quitting the site. I’m pretty close to joining them unless something improves. There’s a defensiveness at times but agree with whoever posted above, separating subscriber vs non subscriber doesn’t make much sense as you need to draw people in. Theres so little here.
I subscribed for years, not so I could post photos directly or give a thumb up / like on posts, because it was a vibrant and welcoming place. Its neither vibrant, or that welcoming anymore.
Appreciate other opinions are available, but I’ve been here for years, supported all the raffles and subscribed for years so I’m in the “want STW to do well” camp.
Just tried out the new "AI search function". Searched for "picolax thread" as that seemed an obvious place to start.
It didnt find the re-possted thread (after the original got lost at one point) but also didnt find the article that re-published it in full in the magazine.
Maybe its all too old as the Ai is still trawling back through old posts etc, but not a particulalry useful start....
EDIT: The standard search function finds multiple pages with the link to the Picolax thread, but unfortunaltey the link appears to be dead... Not sure what this says about either search function, or the availablility of content to be honest, but might inform something in the background?
The indexing for the AI has only gone back as far as 2023 so far. It's working it way back steadily but it takes quite a while. Currently around a year a week. It should get steadily better as time goes by.
FYI the standard search finds this page from 2024, which in turn links to the Picolax thread. The AI didnt find this.

I have generally found that searching for specific factual information using AI tools to be wildly innacurate. Maybe I'm askgin the wrong questions...
Cheers,
keith

Mark said it'd only ingested a couple of years so far.
