Any news on the time taken to open pages?, is there a solution on the way?

How long is your delay? Loads have improved significantly in the last couple of weeks.

Same as ever to open threads or post, from 5+ seconds to 20 + seconds to open certain threads, then it jumps around, sometimes opens 1st page then jumps to last page then scrolls to last post.

Mark said it’s something to do with how it’s cached as it loads everything then loads the final page.

p

Also something new on safari/ipad, when hitting the back button it indicates that the back button has been pressed/touched as the page jumps, but it doesn’t return to main forum page. I have to refresh page, then hit back button

That’ll be a one @Mark would be better answering he has a better understanding.

Your back button is odd, just tested it and had no issues. I wonder if it’s related to the problems you’re having with page loading.

I was just thinking that it felt much quicker today, not that I ever found it slow enough to bother me.

Is STW under attack again? Very flaky forum this morning.

It's awful today. Slow, periods offline and double posts.

It's slow as molasses for me today.  I was willing to blame this ancient computer, but I've just a 502 Bad Gateway from nginx.  Are we under attack again?

And, now it's rapid.  Was it really just that one thread that was killing us?

I don't know if it's just me, but the forum search now only seems to be providing 15 results. Since these are mostly all replies to the same thread it's not very useful.

Oh and there's no longer an option to search the body of posts (just thread titles). I assume that this is by design to speed things up, but it's quite limiting.

Now that humungous Debenhams ad seems to open without being clicked.

Open thread (on bike storage one on the bike forum), that ad pops up, whilst looking at the screen to see where to close it it opens as if I have clicked on it (which I definitely haven’t).

I’ve been a paid full subscriber and digital subscriber before, supported the raffles to keep the lights on etc, but this forum doesn’t work. Traffic must be considerably down given the lack of new posts. Much less reviews and therefore things of interest.

I have no IT knowledge but this is the only forum I use with these issues.

In the classifieds, if you click "message seller" it takes you to what looks like your own profile page ( singletrackworld.com/participant/thisisnotaspoon/messages/163) page that says  "You do not have permission to view this page"

I can only access the forum with my phone. On my laptop it keeps giving the 'go ad free', or allow ads & refresh options. I keep clicking ad free, but the popup keeps coming back. That is using chrome, with no additional adblocker installed.

It's impossible to get on the site any more.

Oh, and on the phone there are static ads at the bottom of the screen which are fine, however there are constantly video ads popping up, which autoplay - including sound which interrupts anything that I am already listening to, or plays out loud when I am in a quiet place.

autoplay - including sound

This is usually controlled by a browser setting.

I cannot view my forum profile - "You do not have permission to view this page" means I cannot go back and find an old thread I was going to post to.

I also cannot seem to subscribe - tells me I have an active subscription, which I do not. I can see I had an subscription I could re-activate, but that only offered what I was on before, not one of the new options. So I have now cancelled properly. I will see if that changes anything. But it is not an easy journey to re-subscribe.

For two or three days now, the forum, and homepage have been almost unusable for me on two browsers, as the pop up 'Why you're seeing this/ allow ads' pops up on every page, and up to 5 times on some pages. Nothing has changed at my end.

Question regarding adding pics. I know how you do it and have done it successfully numerous times. However, I seem to have uploaded loads and loads of pics, so when I go to my media I can't find the pic I want.

So the actual question, is it possible to delete the pics in my media? In the past when I've added 2-3 pics they disappeared.

@Mark suggested in a previous post that deletion was possible but I've not seen a way to do so.

I know the images uploaded are somewhat compressed but that could be adding up to a lot of storage.

Another user here who can't access their messages. Either via profile or if I go via the classifieds I also get the permission error.

Ad-block message every third or fourth post I open. I use the add-on on my laptop but not mobile and STW is whitelisted anyway.

Also the volume being impacted by some of the forum pages is annoying, is there a fix? I have tried blocking sounds from STW to no avail.

Is the subscriber experience any better? I got the mag for years and let it expire this year, the free user experience has been interesting so far..

Well 43 pages is a bit much to hunt through, so a quick question please.

i cannot find messages sent to me before 31.03.26 (including some handy tips sent to me by @johndoh about cooking pizzas) is that something I can sort by doing XYZ or were they deleted as part of the change to the new forum?

Cheers

The paywall is metered now so there's an allocation of free articles for non subscribers. Logged out users get very few. Logged in free members get more. We will play with the numbers as we go to get the balance right.

Regards images. If you are logged in and click the 'My Media' link in the reply box you should now see a 'Delete' button next to your images. Also, if you are a subscriber then your images can be larger and will; be less compressed (80% compression). Free members will have heavy compression and a smaller file size limit. Subscribers can upload and post lots of images. Free members are limited to I think 1 image upload/post per day.

Last I looked, free members were limited to zero per day.  Unless that's changed with the host migration?

What URL are you going to?  I can see it.

If it still says 'member' then that's the wrong address, whatever link you clicked must be broken.

The profile link on my own... what would you call it, user menu? goes to singletrack dot com slash participant - ie, here - which should be everyone's own profile.  I think.

It's the right page, but it tells me that I don't have permission to view the page. Is it a Free Member/permission problem?

I mentioned the pic upload quality a few pages back and it seems to be getting worse for me. Due to the obvious compression I don't even know how this comparison will come across, but a zoomed in screenshot of a pic I uploaded to the WRPT Vs a screenshot of the same/similar pic on my phone. I get that we can't all have 10Mb pics slowing the place down, but don't understand how others are posting sharp images

Are your files .png or .jpg? Compression is different for each and screenshots are often .png by default.

Both are .jpg Just for clarification the one on the right is a screenshot of the zoomed in image I posted on here, the one on the left is the actual pic on my phone zoomed in to a similar crop and then screenshot. The original images I'm uploading are always the full size .jpg's

When I attach a pic, the thumbnail that you tick to insert into the post usualy says around 3-400kb, which seems something like the size that's ultimately posted. Pasting the image directly into the post doesn't make any difference. Maybe it's just the rubbish Samsung camera that I'm using is causing the issue from the off - might try a proper camera pic at some point

I just tried your link, "You do not have permission to view this page"

I've also tried from my user name on a post, which turns out to be the same link address to the one you posted, and from Profile under the Head&Shoulders dropdown which also doesn't work

I've just found that https://singletrackworld.com/user/timba/ gives me access the long way around via "My Account" page (also Head&Shoulders dropdown)

I've edited the/ : and .so that it's in plain text

As above, it seems to be Free Members that are blocked from accessing their profiles; I'm guessing that it might be a user group permission problem.

Also:

The "I can see it link" you've put there is generating a 404 Page Not Found error. This happens for me if I click on a forumite's name in a post to view their profiles and I highlighted it ages ago but it was never fixed.
