Ai search is contextual. That means you get better results by searching for phrases or even questions. For example, try ‘what can you find on the topic of picolax’. Rather than just typing ‘picolax’. The more detailed your query the better the results. I find you get better results from an AI if you treat it like it’s a person.

In terms of its “knowledge” it’s indexed the latest 11k topics so far. The complete forum is 500k topics.

Something is up with the password reset process.  I can't login in desktop browser because I'm being told my password is wrong (it isn't, I use a password manager).  The real problem though is that if I click on password reset I go to this link

Singletrackworkd.com/password-reset

The page stays there for 3 secs and is then overwritten by the Why you're seeing this popup.  I can't do the existing subscribers button as my password is being rejected.  If I click on Allow ads and refresh then I go back to the reset page but after 3 seconds I'm back at the ad popup again

I think you might need to remove the ad popup on the password reset page

Should be fixed now. I've excluded that page from the popup.

Slight theme change to the forum as I've just activated what is called 'Extended mode'. Which makes the individual forum index pages look a little different with some extra drop down options on topics. The main index page hasn't changed but topics and replies ware a bit different with a bit of space. Theres a bit more space on mobile screens for stuff. An experiment of sorts for you to try. As usual, expect tweaks and changes along the way and if no one likes it we can always go back.

Mobile site is practically unusable. I'm getting the Why You're Seeing This, Allow Ads. & Refresh page virtually every click.

I'm using Chrome on a Pixel 9a, no ad blockers or privacy tools installed & just a few basic Apps.

Once in a while it suddenly becomes usable with no changes made.

Bizarrely it now seems to be behaving itself. Perhaps something's been tweaked 👍

That was interesting. I posted a new topic and immediately got a Cloudflare Bad Gateway error screen. I hit the back button to be greeted with the forum and a message saying that my post was successful. The weird thing is that this whole process took much less time than a regular post without the bad Gateway error.

I noticed a while back that when posting, committing to the database is pretty rapid and it's the subsequent page reload which takes a while.  Whether that's still the case today, I don't know.

Remember that as a logged in user your page is not cached. That's how you get the most uptodate version of the page - but that comes at the cost of having your page delivered directly out of the database reather than from an old cached version.

Screenshot 2026-04-30 at 17.22.26.png

Tidied up the top of the forum a bit and consolidated some options in light of the new forum menu. The main index forum that contains topics from both the Chat and bike forums is there when you click the main site forum link in the menu. On desktop the forum menu now looks like this .

On mobile the menu collapses to a hamburger menu on the left.

The main use change is we've created a Google powered forum search box. This was for two reasons. 1) it's quicker. 2) Bots were spamming our site search with random queries which was hitting server loads and slowing things down. The links to the News forum is a bit redundant now as we post editorial news topics in the bike forum by default now.

Subscribers can access the old classic search AND the new AI search in the AI Assistant drop down. So free members get Google powered search, Subscribers get Google plus classic plus AI search.

The google search results may include some google ads put there by Google and not us. Unfortyunately I can't disable those for subscribers.

Can we have the forum overview shortcut back please. Fewer clicks to return back to it.

Was think that myself after I made the changes. The link is in the sub forum menu but on mobile it's an extra click to get to it. Standby and I'll give it a try

Oh, I've just noticed something else. Clicking the thread title doesn't jump to the first unread post, it goes to the first post. >> still goes to last post.

You don't need to try and sort this tonight, spend your evening in a nicer way!

Not that it's exactly a hive of activity, but ditto the member forum.  Unless you're retiring it I suppose.

I can confirm this is the case... but not every time.  I can't see a pattern as yet.

It's always been random for me. It does generally seem to work a bit more reliably if I just click on the link rather than long-click and open in a new tab (which is my preferred way of doing things). But I'm not completely sure that I'm not imagining that.

Currently the >> is often taking me to the top of the last page, not to the last post.

Yes. Noticed that too. I suspect if I remove the box outline from around the forum it will work again. As bonkers as that sounds. Let’s see if I’m right.

Yup. That's fixed it. Putting a nice tidy outline around the forum apparently breaks the ability to jump to the end of a topic. FML

WAIT: Worked it out with the help of Claude

Desktop rather than mobile, but yes, it appears that I was being a muppet!

Trying to convince myself that it's just reappeared rather than accept that I was being a plonker again 🙄

There no longer appears to be access to the Advanced Search functions, is that now subscriber only?

IMO ditch the outline. It looks a mess, especially in mobile view and even more so in dark mode. Without it is a lot cleaner and less cluttered. The contrast between black and dark grey background (dark mode) achieves the same thing in a less invasive way.

Following this update clicking on a thread title is no longer taking me to the first unread post, it just dumps me at the start of the first page.

Removing the "&gsc.tab=0" from the end of the URL gets it to reload to the first unread post.

Should be fixed now. Gopogle Search box was adding that to the end of the url. There's a filter in now to stop that

Sadly that change doesn't seem to have made it through to me yet, I'm still seeing either "#gsc.tab=0" or "&gsc.tab=0" at the end of each URL and they do seem to be affecting loading pages.

Now that we have lines around the edge, any chance we can get Instagram and other embedded content / links to stay within them? Currently they are always wider than the standard forum width.

I think you click Latest, two icons over now. Still waiting for the return of the one we used to have at the bottom.

... addendum: pretty much everything seems to be doing it.  Adding a new reply also.

Is a "filter" the answer, rather than stopping whatever's suddenly started doing it from doing it?

The cause is the Google search box and it’s a known side effect of using it. There’s options to investigate. The easiest but the one I’m trying to avoid, is to put the Google search on a separate page. That would mean an extra click to get to it. I have a couple of avenues to go down before that though.

I *think* it's fixed. It is for me.

Much simpler solution in the end. It was a setting buried deep in Google's Custom Search dashboard that I used Google to find 🙂

I'm back to the mobile site being unusable due to the Ad. blocker message. I had to accept it 6 times just to view a post (as previously no blockers or privacy tools installed).

Interestingly this appears to be a problem with using data via O2. Currently at home on our wifi everything seems to be behaving itself.

Yes, I raised that earlier^^

Is it technically a possibility that slow ad loading times mimic a block?

When I'm using mobile data & the signal's not great, I sometimes get a message where the video ads usually play telling me that my internet connection is too slow (I assume, to stream the ads).
