Long threads are taking ages to load. When I click on the thread title, quite a number of seconds to show the first post page then more to display the final page/first unread post. Trump and Ukraine threads are particularly affected as they are so lengthy now.

35 seconds to load Trump just now.

Just loaded the Trump thread. 3 seconds. I'm not doubting your experience, just showing how random things are.

Why does my real name show up on the blog comment but not the forum?

It also shows up on quotes too 😕

Bit of a user interface thought. But at the bottom.of a long thread the only way to get back to the overview forum is hot the floating "back to top"  icon, then hit the latest forum icon.  The drop-down at the bottom of threads doesn't let me go back to the overview.

Would be nice to have forum bar at the bottom of threads too.

@tractionman real names, sometimes full, were showing up in classifieds. I raised it here and by email, had no reply and the problem persisted. I took the, (paid for) advert down and probably won’t bother again.

Still not working properly for me compared to any other forums, why?

I only visit occasionally because of that so why is this forum "different" (read shit) from a user experience POV? What's the point?

It is such a shame as the content and people are great.

Ok. The reply is that you have you display name set as your real name. Comments work differently to forum replies, you need to change your display name as username.

Thanks @Drac, alas I can't see where 'display name' settings are? I looked under my profile and account settings and it's my user name that appears there? Is there somewhere else I need to check?

cheers,

Having just spent the last week as an unpaid/logged in member, i'd just like to say that STW when logged out is a really really yukky place to browse, adverts, videos, background advert upon advert. It's like one of those news sites you click on and click instantly back off again.

IMO there's nothing here that encourages people who find this place from a google search to stay and sign up once they've read the thread they've searched for.

Of all of the forums i've ever visited, this has by far the most and most intrusive adverts.

I'm a little puzzled why that issue would bother tractionman when they sign off most posts 'Keith'

Unless her name is Sharon and it's just a clever distraction. 😁

There seems to be a return of the issue of delays in posts appearing on the thread itself, despite the summary at the top of the thread showing I (and others) have subsequently posted. For ref, this is on the Hunt TrailWide thread.

True. But this isn't some kind of small tweak here and there that is needed to refine the visitor's experience. By "shit" I mean it needs to adopt a proper forum format / background / engine (I don't know what the term is) like 99.99% of other forums that I have ever visited that just run properly. When one forum just doesn't work properly (hence the word shit) and EVERY single other forums works quasi perfectly perhaps it's time to take notice and just accept that there is fundamentally something very wrong, and polishing the proverbial turd isn't working. But then again if the owners are more or less happy with the final result, who am I to moan?

I got a notification (including an email) this morning for a message someone sent me in November.

How do you make a site this bad, it's almost funny?

It is November?

@Nickfrog I still don’t get what you mean, you need to be a little more specific then it “it doesn’t work”.

Is it possible to click on the title of a multi-page thread and get it to stay on the first page without automatically loading the latest page?

If not, is there a way to jump back to the first page without hitting "prev" multiple times?

just click the thread title rather than the >> at the end, takes me to the first page.

or to go to p1 from the last page, click the page no to the RH side and you get a dropdown, just choose p1.

eg.... Page 33/33 <Prev 33, click the 33 to the far right for the dropdown.

On my phone it loads the first page then automatically loads the last.

The page number thing seems to work though. Ta.

Odd one. Try the classic cookie delete but I will ask if they can find anything or have any suggestions.

If I do this, I seem to get taken to (the one after) the last post that I read, rather than to page1. That last post will often be on the final page, but is not necessarily the ultimate (ie actual last) post.

The >> icon to get to actual last post works fine.

The only way I can think to use 'click on thread title' is to clear cookies, and i ain't going to do that.

ahhhh i should have given it more time.  just tried again and clicked the main title, went to the first page, and thought yes its strange how its different for me.  few seconds later it did actually change to last page.

so it looks like the dropdown method is the only way.

Cougar recently mentioned that there is a "delete post" button. Obviously I am a very low IQ person because I can't find it. Anyone care to point me in the right the right direction? Ta !!

It's down at the bottom with the Edit Post icon, but there's only a very short window before it vanishes (5 minutes I think). It's a dustbin icon.

At the moment I'm seeing really long delays for edits to posts to show up.

might just be worth a check every now and then in your profile as mine never shows anything on the 'forum' page, its just a plain bell.  i only found mine by accident when i needed to update my payment details, went into my profile and the bell icon now showed '6'.

I might be late in noticing it, but the ability to select part of a post body and quote using the little modal with the quote icon is neat - nice job!

Clicking the thread title to take you to the first unread post has been the way it works for a good few weeks now (yes, after jumping through the first page). It used to be the double chevron for that function, but that just takes you to the very last post now.

The time delay on really bit threads when clicking the title still exists (sometimes half a minute for the trump thread) but it's pretty quick if just hitting the chevrons.

I still have to log in every time I visit on my laptop. Until just now though I could get straight in on my Android. But no, not anymore. I've been logged out and have to sign in yet again. Hey STW, you're doing just great.

Maybe I should start a poll about user satisfaction, after all we have not seen a new poll for a while 🫩

I could name dozens of websites I have to use for work that log me out on an almost hourly basis so I came up with a solution.

Log back in. Takes 2 clicks.
