head angle selected purely to provide slackness in steering input if specced less than 69 degrees ?
i appreciate that a steeper HA will sharpen up steering input, whereby slacker angles add stability and assist manuals / wheelies etc...
am i missing anything else ?

head angle also affect wheelbase, so a slack head angle will lengthen the wheelbase (where the stability comes from) without lengthening the top tube.
So yes you've got it about right, and 69 is about middle of the range, XC race bkes will be 71+, DH bikes 65 or less.

I'm a big fan of adjustable long fork (zochi 66's), slack (67) head angle, short stem (thomson 50mm) and wide bars (EA70's 685 mm). stable on the ups and perfect on the downs.
