Ok,I think I know but just want to confirm Beche befless mess token bands etc etc.
My RC3 + is L,L tune.
So rebound is Low and compression is Low. No problems there.
Now..... LOW.... does it mean
1) Rebound is aย "slow" tune effectively? So rebound is heavily suppressed for want of a better word?
Now Compression...
Does Low mean that the force needed to compress the shock is "low" or the exact opposite?? This is the one I'm really confused about.lol
Thanks guys!
L means low or perhaps light is a better word. High speed rebound will be quick and there will be minimal amounts of compression damping. That said L on the compression isnt the lowest level, L1 is.
Ok, so rebound is slow effectively, well damped. Right?
Compression is only lightly damped?
So the above sums it up? Thanks by the way. ๐
It's replacing a Monarch RT3 on a 29er Jeffsy with:

By the time I fit the shock I'll be about 95kg with riding gear on.
The RC3+ has been custom tuned (from factory) for an Intense Recluse 29er which has similar suspension to my Jeffsy from the look of it (??) and the same travel.
I mean to say that I might get away with just fitting some token bands in it as the tune is for a similar suspension system?
Thanks! 😃
There's not much damping being applied to the spring in either compression or rebound. The manufacturer will have chosen that tune to suit the bike so unless you have good reason it's best not to deviate. My bike also has a L,L tune, I tried a M,M and it sucked, was very harsh.
Adding bottomless rings will make the air spring get "stiffer" through the stroke of the shock, I've added a few to my monarch on my smuggler as I'm [s]an stw riding god[/s] quite heavy, I know people who jump a lot who've fully maxed out the rings.
Poop. It means theres low amounts of either dialled in. Low rebound means little rebound tuned in Vs medium. So low is more open than medium. Same for compression.
Thanks guys!
On the pic above which is the old shock I'm replacing, it also has "S" for compression. What would that mean on the context of the L3 compression tune?
S means you have a soft pedal platform (which in my mind is the only one worth having). M rebound can often work where it was low as rebound is a combination of the rebound adjuster and the tune you may find that the M tune with the rebound dial set pretty fast is comparable to what you had before.
L3 is the equivalent to L1 on the other shock, but that should be fine as you have a pedal mode to compensate. Running a slightly lower compression tune on a shock with a pedal mode is not uncommon.
So in essence if you're not running the rebound dial wound fully or mostly out to fast on your current shock you probably can get away with this one. Why you'd swap and RC3 for what I assume is an RT3 is another question...
Sorry mate, in swapping the RT3ย toย RC3+. ๐
Thanks for the continued help by the way!
Can I ask,the Soft pedal platform, does that mean that the shock is still a long way from being locked out so still has a lot of compliance?
Straight on the RC3's, it does not mention the platform type. I wonder why that is? Anyway....
Also I'm going from the L3 compression to plain L(... I don't think the RC3+ has all the L2,L3 tunes, just the L?) I'm guessing there isn't a massive difference between the L3 on the RT3 and the L on the RC3 I'm going to fit, in practice anyway?
What you say about the M tune on rebound makes perfect senseย by the way and I think I will indeed be able to wind the rebound up to what I currently have the RT3 at.
RC3 doesnt have a platform, it has low speed compression adjustment - its all in the name you see:
RT3 = Rebound + Threshold (pedal) Setting * 3
RC3 = Rebound + Compression (Low in this case) Setting * 3
The open / Mid / Firm does roughly the same job as the pedal platform if you don't delve too deep into how it works.
L3 > L? You might not even notice to be honest. The RC3 runs a bit more open anyway than the RT3, so there isn't going to be a vast difference. The RC3 has L or L1, while the RT3 has L or L3 (there's no L1 or L2) so you're not that far away really, its only one step in the tune not 3. I doubt there's many people that would notice much difference in a blind test!
Thanks again!
Ah,I kind of assumed that the Mid compression setting of the lever was similar to a platform so I'm kind of correct there. Wonder how different it will feel?
I'm a spinner up hill so I probably won't notice a lot of difference I should think.
