THinking about getting a new Canyon Nerve AM or XC. Looking at the AM it comes with a Talas fork which I can reduce the travel from 150 to 120. Know this is fine for going uphill, but whats it like for riding for longer periods of time on tight twisty singletrack etc. Would I do any damage to the fork by riding it a lot (and for long periods of time) in the shorter setting?

Cheers

It's designed to be ridden in both settings. On my Canyon AM I tend to ride in the shorter one most of the time and only really extend it out when I know I'm doing rough stuff or want a slacker head angle.

Talas forks can be run indefinitely on either setting, so you could leave it at 120 and it'd be fine. Having said that, I have a 2011 Nerve AM - it goes uphill better than any other bike I own, even at 150mm on technical stuff, so I never bother using the Talas setting at all on that bike. It's good on twisty singletrack at 150mm too. If I had to get another fork for it I'd not bother with the Talas option.
