Just about starting to build up a 5010 V2 frame. No experience of SC VPP system, but from what I have read the 5010 can be fairly firm in the first part of the travel, leading to poor small bump performance. Is this people's real life experience? Is it more related to the older V1/CTD bikes, and largely been sorted by V2/EVOL air can?

My type of riding is more flowy XC - lots of small bumps, few big hits.

If an issue my strategy will be as follows:
1. 30% sag - increase volume reducer if necessary to prevent bottom out.
2. Run 2.6 tyres at lowish pressures
3. Change to Corset air can
4. Change to Enduro needle bearings in shock eyelets

All above low cost options cos have them on previous bike. Not keen on getting plastic out to buy heavy weight piggyback or coil shock.

Is it possible I will still be disappointed and that a 5010 is not for me?

I got a 5010 V2 in the Black Friday sales. I haven’t noticed any issues. I just used the recommended air pressures and cracked on. Will use ShockWiz In New Year.
Had a Corset on my Yeti 5 which transformed it. Not certain the 5010 would need one.

Not yet! Doing my research after rather than before purchase.

Had V2 for a couple of years and now on the V3. I don't think you will have any issue. I had a Blur TRA with the CTD shock (26" 5010) and the shock wasn't great. The move to the newer shock and 27.5" was like night and day.

Drop your heels, get sag at 30 and find a comfy tyre pressure and you'll be fine. Line choice and technique makes the 5010 a joy to ride fast.I imagine it's like a simple sports car that rewards the rider rather than does it all for you.

I once (very briefly) had a sports car, and soon replaced it with a ford fiesta - preferred the ride. Nothing to do with the scary road tax review.
