31 I think the count was in the end.

This is the sportstracker thingy. It doesn't seem to have got a GPS lock until we were halfway up to Hollins cross so add another half a mile or so on.

I'm shattered - posting this from my bed!

I'm glad you're not blaming your swim in the ford on me for blocking the exit! Sorry 😉

The burger was great, despite hora's comment. I can remember those wooden boards though, but I bet they didn't have enough to go round us all today...

If any local(ish) riders want another group to get out with, try www.natsmtb.com - we're out every Sunday, very often in the Peaks. I'm leading one from Bamford in March. Similar pace to today, but not usually quite as big a turnout.

Thanks for the ride, Chris. See you on another one soon!

[s]31 I think the head count was in the end.

No mechanicals I can remember, except a bit of seatpost slippage that was sorted with trusty duck tape!

Sportstracker thingy is here - it relates to the back of the field, obviously!

I'm shattered - posting this from my bed![/s]

No need to post that all twice...

ourkidsam - that GPS thing looks really good - is that a phone based app?

simon1975 - no blame but my own, was too close behind with only one way to go!

Yeah, it's on my Nokia 5800. Seems pretty reliable once it's going. The only problem is it doesn't automatically detect you've stopped so average speed always looks really poor!

Although it would have been better without the snow I quite liked the change. Had none of the highlights been snowless then it would've have been a different matter for me I think. A slither of the bedrock gulley/track off of rushop edge, roych and the top of the ladder was probably worth the while

I've some pics here, but I'm pretty miffed so many are so blurry and I overjudged my 'flatness compensation' a little too much

Some not (quite) so terrible ones:

I would like to say thanks to everybody for a great ride today.

Special thanks to Pook who waited for me and Sam and even pushed Sams bike up to Jacobs as well as his own 'cos he was shattered. I died on that last uphill, really. :-/

Thanks to whoever lent me the money for the car park (let me know who you are so I can get you a drink one day!) and to Hora for helping me out when I was late (I had two closed roads to navigate round, it really wasn't my fault!)

(oh and my car was ok, I couldn't stop for the kerbstone as the brakes had faded, I was caning it to get to Edale not too late)

One last comment though, how many people chickened out of that steep rocky downhill on the last bit? Come on, it was easy!!! 😀

Sorry I missed you guys, I did actually ride over from sunny Glossop, across the Roych, but then had a sudden urge to head over to Ladybower and over Cut Gate then back home... Cut Gate intriguingly arctic at the moment and not particularly rideable, but very peaceful bar the grice. The Roych was ace this morning though.

So thats why you steamed into the carpark and had to use the handbrake to get into a parking spot 😯

Ps. If anyone is interested. I bought one (thanks skiprat) for £14 Grade 1. Then and I found another one (actually brand new) for £27)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110475391945

You would look abit 'special' off the bike but in rain, etc etc whilst riding- no one is looking your way and its a fraction of the cost of decent Goretex. I reckon its £100-comparable and..better than my old North Face Goretex jacket that I was worried about ripping etc 😀

morning all,

thanks for a top ride yesterday once again everyone - some regulars and some new faces, so i hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did. Thanks for the beers too (London Pride went last night).

These pics are great! Having had a quick look at the video rushes too there's some really good stuff.

My leg is grazed from knee to ankle from my car park fall! Great start eh? 🙄

I am a bit ashamed of that really. I hate being late and I needed to calm down a bit really. Took me halfway up to Hollins Cross to eventually get my head straight.
At least I know the brakes on that car have their limits. I followed Hora all the way back to the M60 and he drives faster than me!!

Just cleaned, GT85ed and lubed the bike up. It's grinding like a peppermill but at least I feel like I've done something to maintain it.

...but of course I'd cleaned and polished it last night as well and have been out getting it dirty again in Leicestershire today. Much easier when there's less bits on it to clean 😉

Well I think I can gather that from the 2 STW rides I've been on so far, going downhill quickly is not a highly prized thing amongst the forum dwellers. (some exceptions)

And before anyone else says it, on the other hand, no I'm not quick uphill!!! (Trying hard to get better though!)

Sorry didn't mean to rude - I'm not saying people are rubbish at going downhill, far from it (I don't for a minute think I was the fastest downhill - Pook I think you're better than me). I just don't see the excitement in others I feel in myself. Oooh that's deep!

I HAVE to go down Jacobs and Rushup when it's dry in the summer. I was so sad all the snow was there (comedy factor was good though!!)

I'm slow going up and down. What I do like after a stressful week is the opportunity to relax/get out on the bike and not worry about holding people up in anyway.

These STW rides are good as its relaxed/have a laugh.

I'm going to do that Cavedale route with a detour down the Beast next Sat am if anyones about. Early start/finish as Ive got to go to Birmingham afterwards.

Rob, we can have a race on the next one 😀 . I'm rather competetive at times... I know you were on the last ride i did, but i cant remember which bike you were on?

I wont be quick up the hills, the new bike weighs about 32/33 pounds with slack head angle, whereas my old trek was 17 pounds, with talas forks...

THe down is the best bit anyway...

I just don't see the excitement in others I feel in myself.

The last thing I'm looking at when I'm going downhill is other people's excitement. There's quite enough [s]dribbling down[/s] to contend with myself

if there was a race, it would have to be very early or late in the day to avoid walkers 😀 and if i get a job somewhere, i might be able to afford a new bike by then 😆

avoid walkers? they are part of the terrain! knock 1 second of your time for a yell of fear, 3 for a leap for safety and 5 for actual contact.

add 5 secs on for a wave or saying hello

gnnnnnaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
