Whenever I wear a skull cap or a buff under my helmet that comes down over my ears (namely in winter on the road) after a couple of hours I get a headache from my ears being pressed against my head.

All I have to do to relieve it is pull the sides out a bit and let my ears get away from my head.

Any solutions out there?

Is your helmet the right size?
A tight helmet can be painful..

As above. When I wore a buff under a standard OSFA helmet I'd get a headache after a few hours (fine without). No issues now I've bought a bigger helmet

The helmet is fine, it's the compression of my ears that causes the irritation

Not much help but I used to get the same thing from certain sunglasses. It was as if they we pressing on a particularly sensitive spot above the ears and giving me a headache.

The legs of your sunglasses could have been pressing on your sphenoid sinuses which are just above and forward of your ears, certain sunglasses when wore with a cycling cap give me a similar pain

Thanks Soma, that sounds about right (although I thought it was arms, not legs)!
