Anyone? One size fits all, seriously?

Following on from my Orange 5 sale thread, looking at 29er frames.

Yes one size fits all much like a Jones. Quite a distinctive ride so worth trying one I would suggest.

Looking for mile munching more than technical aggressive trail stuff. Could visit them, not too far from my parents.

My Stooge is now my go-to bike and I love it.
Riding it Singlespeed for now.
Supreme fun and uber comfy, I have done loads of short fun "trail" riding and some big long moster rides 100 Mile+.

I like it that much that I sold my El-Mariachi

I'm 6ft and running a 110mm stem with about 20mm spacers.Magic Mary Bars.
My mate is around 5 ft9 and he borrowed mine a few times and has also ordered one!

I guess there would be limitations but with a long/short stem/saddle placement etc..there is plent room to play around with.

Where you based?

I love mine. Only bike I've used since I've built it up.
I've enjoyed messing about in the woods but also some longer rides.
Fits me fine- 173cm with 50mm stem and 740mm bars.

i think its one size fits most rather than one size fits all. more a tactic to keep costs down for a small business starting up rather than a design philosophy.

I'm 5'11" + a bit. Fits like a glove, (I'm normally 18" bike sized). Rides great. Like Krembo, my go to bike.
I'm in Pembrokeshire if you ever make it out this far west, you're welcome to have a play.

I'm 5ft 9. Mine fits great with a 60mm stem, 760mm bars and inline post. Reckon I could drop 10-20mm on the stem and may experiment but I'm in no hurry. It's a great bike - uber-capable and super-comfy. Not done a huge ride on it yet but I can't see any reason not to.

5'7" with what could be described as long legs / short body. Running mine with a 50mm stem, in-line post and 680mm bars. These were my thoughts are 4 back to back days.

I've ridden @cheezpleez's Stooge, I'm a little shorter (172cm) than he is, I found the fit good on his set up and am contemplating a buy. Fit is not an issue for me.

I'm 5'11 average sort of reach I guess.
Running a 50mm stem on top of 40mm spacers with 740mm low rise bars. I use a straight post with the saddle pushed back.
Singlespeed.

I'm in the Midlands nr Straford on Avon if that's any good and you would like to check it out.

6'2"

90 stem

might as well get involved 🙂

It's not a 'one size fits all', more available only in one size. BUT due to the taller than normal headtube and lower than normal toptube(s) it lend itself to growing and shrinking really easily. I'm a gnat's chuff sort of 6' and i designed it to fit me. I run a 60mm stem and a straight post at the moment, though i prefer i with a setback.

A lot of modern bikes now have virtual sizing, so the 18" seat-tube is a little misleading. The actual size is about the same as a Large Santa Cruz. One of my friends is 5'7, he runs a 5mm spacer, 50mm stem and he flings it around like its a BMX. so anywhere between 5'7 and 6'2 and you'll be fine. If you fit outside that window then i'm really sorry 🙁

I'm not in the market at the moment, but just can't stop looking at the stooge, maybe one of a future batch will be mine.......... or a genesis longitude, hmmmmm

^^^ A fine endorsement above from Brant, fair play. I remember the first stooge thread, which had a slight air of scepticism from some quarters, it's nice to see how things have panned out and how much praise it's getting!

For me, it's lots of things.

I think what Andy's done is great. It's a brilliantly different, very specific bike - I mean, two colours and one size - that's specific! It's designed as a frame and a fork (and BB) to work as a unit. So in terms of the culture, the ethos, I just like it for that reason alone. I like what he's doing. And it's nice to have things from nice people around you if you can.

And then the ride is great. It does that "rides lighter than it is" thing really well. It's very balanced on steeper climbs, and still has dexterity and flow... There's a little chicaney technical wiggle in one of the downhills I did today, and it just made me giggle through there. Snakehips. Felt great.

I stuck it down a super silly slippy gully slope and it was great. Took care of me well. And this was Andy's bike. With minimal tweaks to brake lever and bar position, first ride out. Tyres were probably a touch hard for me too so even more to play with.

Hope that helps.

best review of a bike I have read in a while, cheers totally understandable, descriptive and high praise.

Yes helps ......the confusion of what I will get next, pretty much settled on something else, lighter and carbon with a second option second hand frame but as Core said keep getting drawn back to the stooge, for looks, ethos and generally high praise of the riders/owners

Perhaps the new tag line for the stooge

it just made me giggle through there

off to ponder....

ps was it a springy steel ride? Does that make sense

The stooge is definitely not "springy" it's stiffer than a corpse on viagra, but awsomez

oooo, interesting tazzy tip for those setting up their stooge and not sure about the handlebar thing. Some dont like the altbar backsweep for aggro riding but find that the front is a bit more harsh with a "standard" bar. Have look at Trials bars like rockman and echo etc.. as they are between 720-740, come with a flat to mid rise and up to 15 degree backsweep (depending on bar) and for me have got to the magic sweet spot of hooligan with just enough back sweep so all the positives without the niggles of odd bars etc..

just a little note from a geeky bike nerd 🙂

Ah - yes - it could be that if the BB was rotated into the back position I'd have thought.

My measurements were taken from BB centre.

Less on one fatty and more jeff jones spaceframey..which is funny as the oo fatty also nicked the fork offset from jones to make it handle nicely. And the stooge has a similar rigid frmae n fork as one ethos as a jones. Just not as supple and a bit more grrrrrrrrr for shorter play days.

Oo fatty fork in carbon is tapered martinh so won't fit the stooge. Salsa enablers work well eith the frame, although having tried s fat front on it, I prefer the 29er. But I do slrrady have a fat front on the jones and a fat bike so sticking a fat on tbe stooge is never goin to be as good.

cheers the review Brant, that's a bit good that is.

They Snipped. 11 stitches in the old chin. The moral of the story is this: don't pussy out at the top of a gulley on a bike with soft suspension forks.

In fact, don't ride a bike with suspension forks.

Biff, if we're going to continue down this route may i suggest you check the figures and compare them - everything is different apart from the 55mm fork offset, and that was about getting the correct trail figure.

here's something for you to quote. The Stooge is not a copy of a Jones. I's my own design based on many years spent thinking and learning about geometry, riding many bikes with different set ups and seeing how they work on the trail. The twin top tubes are stolen from Torker and Don Smith. They're a homage to my youth spent riding BMX bikes. Yes, they've coincidentally turned out like a Fatty.

There is plenty enough room for more than one rigid specific bike in this world. Once upon a time all mountain bikes were rigid. Some even had slack head angles and big fork offsets. It's a post-modern world.

I'm sure you're a nice guy, as am i. It's very easy to come across as a bully on the internet.

Good news that the 27.5b+ fits. Recon that'll be a fun set up. Chronicles have arrived just in time too. Not going to be great in proper sticky mud, but great on wet off camber rock so far.
Pedalling position on the Jones looks terrible.

Frame comes with the EBB insert and gear hanger. If you're going to run it SS then leave the hanger off. I still have 1 SS specific frame left in stock, i was planning on building it myself, but if anyone wants it....
