Took one of these out for a spin around the Bassin d'Archacon near Bordeaux today. pretty flat, some singletrack that was dry and sandy, some forest paths, mostly bike paths.

No fun at all. Heavy and ungainly and a lot of hard work. Smooth though and went over pretty much anything. Hard to bunnyhop. Far slower than the 29er hardtail we had with us.

Different power modes made no difference.

Note: I'd recommend riding it with the battery connected to the motor. Oops.
The quick spin down the road with it hooked up properly revealed it is very fast indeed!

You have to remember to plug the battery in when you unplug the charger ๐Ÿ˜†

Em, if the battery is not connected to the motor and you set it to turbo mode it goes down 0% in 3 hours so that's pretty exceptional battery life.

Oh, the brakes are really good - SRAM Guide R it said on them.

The gears change nicely. They were an SRAM 1xsomething but I didn't look at what was written on them.

It's quite hard to lift over a gate.

The Specialized dropper post goes up and down really fast.

It makes a fun noise on pavements. Like a tipper truck. I always wanted to drive a tipper truck.

I was going to take it round a BMX race track but it was all closed off so can't compare the handling to a BMX.

The really big water bottles are a tight fit.

The big tyres go up kerbs very easily.

^ This is me on it. I got some new GIRO bike/casual shorts from a link on bikebargains.co.uk. They're very nice.

Em, if you put too much suncream on and sweat it starts running in your eyes and gets stingy. I'd recommend wearing a sweatband if riding a bike like this in the sun without the battery plugged in

๐Ÿ˜† I lent mine to a mate having forgotten to plug the battery in. He commented on how subtle the additional power kick was... but don't tell the haterz that you managed to pedal it round a ride without assistance, that's another of their arguments against them out the window...

This is the sort of detail that's missing from most reviews.

I got one a few months ago, love it (with the battery connected), suits a not as fit as I used to be stout bloke recovering from a broken foot. Got shot down in flames big time on here for daring to ask how to destrict it (for use on private land of course).

I want another go off road, with the motor in. Possibly around Glentress Black - zoom up those hills!
However the bike is in France and I'm back in Scotland

I had a go on 4 at the MBR FOD demo day.

Cannondale Motera 130mm - Lot of fun, very good on smooth trails, not so much on sheep skull
My mates 130 motera broke down several times on the way round.

Trek Powerfly 120mm - Poor spec components and not enough travel. Put a flat in the 2.8 rear tubeless tyre that couldn't be repaired.
Mates one worked fine throughout.

Focus Bold - Hardtail, not for me especially in 29" hard work to manuvour and uncomfortable on the trails.
Mates - Jam - broke down, sensor came loose on the rear wheel, reports very heavy to pedal up.

Cannondale Motera 160mm - Lots more fun than the short travel bikes on the way down, bit draggy at high speed. went up a dream.
both behaved throughout.

Summary, Tech is too flaky to invest and batteries are still too heavy. would hire one for a bit of trail centre fun but unless your mates own them too you are gonna be on some boring days out

@yourguitarhero
did you by any chance have anything to do with the comedy script writing for red nose day this year?
