After a good face plant a few months ago (on a frosty day - ouch) I've being toying with the idea of a full facer to preserve my boyish good looks 😀
Don't fancy a proper DH one, or one of those Met Parachute things - but Deviant looks ok - anyone tried one??? What's it like for the ups?
Works for me. It's pretty well vented, but not as much protection as say a Giro Remedy.
But it's not a full on DH helmet, it's more of an XC lid with a hard shell. Much better than a parachute IMO.
EDIT - Try before you buy as their XL is very big.
i never liked the way they felt when i put them on.
like thye didnt quite fit
Ive got the carbon one Its hot on the ups

Works fine as a DH helmet IMO and certainly not suitable for normal XC (unless you get off on having a hot sweaty head).
No complaints at all with me - I've had mine a few weeks now and have used it on a few XC rides and don't find it much hotter than my Giro Havoc. Having said that, if the weather had been warmer, that might change. Now the weather is getting colder, I doubt I'll be using the Giro again until the spring.
The main difference for me is you can't hear quite as well with it on, but I wouldn't have said it's a problem - just something to be aware of.
Oh well, maybe I'll just have to try one and see. I think a sweaty head (gets a bit sweaty on ups anyway) and reduced hearing (often ride with tunes anyway) are bearable if it means my next faceplant doesn't result in not being able to shave for a month - or worse! Only thing is it's much money to fork out to find out it doesn't suit.
Bring back the switchblade i say...
I've got a switchblade cluttering up the cupboard somewhere!
Lucky you
I have broken all mine 🙁
Whats a switchblade??
I like my Cratoni, removable chin guard, shame you can't get them in the UK anymore (was only £40 too)...

A bit warm in Summer though as your breath goes back into your face.
If anyone finds a UK distributor post a link eh?
mrkbutty - the Cratoni does look like a good compromise - it's a bit like the Met but not quite so "Transformers" looking
I'm a big fan of my carbon Deviant, certainly nice and light for a full face helmet and happily use it for Aston Hill and the like, no way I'd want to ride 100km xc rides in it though...
Have one, love it. But its only used for mucking around duties my Xen is for longer rides and my 661 piss pot for jump/pump track duties.
Got carbon one - fine for winter xc - excellent protection from hail stones and driving rain! Does get hot in the summer on climbs - Wore mine for two years mostly around Afan including Skyline but have just changed to a "normal" lid and its much better . . . . until you fall off head first that is!
i've got a carbon one and it's pretty light for a full facer. Straps onto my backpack for climbs and doesn't feel any heavier than a giro xen i wear other times.
It does seem a bit fragile though.
Have a look at the Casco Viper if it is for XC duties. Not cheap but IMO much better than the Deviant and the Parachute (I've had both)
A mate of mine had a major face plant at Innerleithen. Since then all of my riding buddies have tried most of the options open to us. All of us bar one have settled on the Casco Viper. The last remaining person is on the Parachute but will definitely get the Viper when funds permit.
The Deviant was too heavy / hot for XC duties IME.
got one but not for anything that involves going uphill, had a few nasty falls in it and no major scares but I am retireing it this winter in favour of a THE or 661 probably. Had a parachute (but I'm not going to incurr the wrath of those who know soooo much more by saying that is was a really good lid that i liked and it didn't explode and rip my face into millions of tiny pieces)
