why?
Why are they good? Why would I want one? How are they different?
I've only ridden one round a car park, but for some strange reason I want one.
So, Fatty Bikes...
Are for people who can't ride proper bikes fast.......
Aren't they for people with a fear of suspension?
They are great fun... Like Singlespeeds I always never saw te point.
Then I moved to Cheshire. And rode Delamere. A lot. Suddenly a Singlespeed made perfect sense.
I first rode a Fatbike last year, infact, it was Shaggys' prototype On One, and it was ace..
Then I came into the lucky position of being able to get one, and now I have?? Well, IMHO, they're ace..
Went to Anglesey last weekend, and we just rode for miles along the beach.. It was fantastic fun.
To be fair, it's great around Delamere too, and the irony of putting on a 4" Tyre on for muddy condtions on isn't lost on me either..
Try it.
You might just like it.
I do.
A lot.
I confess I am intrigued. What pressure do you put in the tyres?

Err, I'm sure it was Terrahhawk who blew a hell of a lot of people out of the water on one at Mayhem?
There's fast up there's fast across and there's fast down.....
If riding round a muddy field is your thing carry on

Yet so often i am waiting on regular bikes to catch up when on my "weighs a ton" pugsley... ๐
Come out with some of us for a ride sometime in East Lothian if you think there slow ๐
I love how people judge things they have never done or experienced ๐ ๐

If you want to ride down a beach week in week out that's up to you.
Sone of us prefer a little bit more technical trails than a washed up cockle shell....
I also ride downhill, xc, a bit road, commute and too the pub, thats pretty varied ๐

Rik - CK is a good rider and not often phased by technical riding whether it be on a DH track, jump park or the down the beach
And still friends with GW on facebook ๐ฎ
ha ha.. ๐
we need to get out for rides/pub again soon
Aye... on ANY BIKES ๐
I love rik's world view it must be like a tank driver his field of vision is so narrow. He was chuffing on about 29ers....and rigid bikes....and fat bikes.....I'm sure he's had a punt at single speeds as well....
Bless ya, MBUK is that way ------->
๐
I just assumed he was about 12.

Bollox, I've many KOM's on "proper bikes" but love riding my Fat Bike.
In fact I'm racing it at this weekends Isle of Man End2End where I'll be aiming for an under 4hour finishing time, somewhere near my "proper bike" time in 2009 of 3hr's 36mins (41st place)

When racing and not on sand, a massive 18psi

I ride one because it makes my arse look smaller ๐
Yep me too, they are very slimming ๐
I like em, I've never rode one, in fact I've never even seen one in real life, and I live in the south east, but they're strangely appealing in a totally pointless (for me), non useful (to me) sort of way......
But I still like em and would love a go on one regardless what the bike fashion police think of them....

I took mine for its maiden ride today just on a bike path.
It was fantastic. They are not super quick but not complete slugs either. Max speed 32 km/hr with a 24km/hr average over 20 km on an urban cycleway is not too bad. I cant wait to try the beach tomorrow.
I would love to give one a try.
How do they cope with dry loose sand? The sort you find above the high water line.
Must resist though. SWMBO will string me up if I fall foul of another impulse purchase.
The main reason i ride one is because it brings a huge smile to my face every time I get on it.
How can something as ridiculus as a fatbike not make you laugh.
If you plan on riding beaches, you will quickly learn that there are different types of sand and that momentum is your friend ๐ The Moonlander (like hugors) has 5" tyres and will handle softer sand better than the "narrow" 4" tyres sported by the other types.
I'm not a massive fan of beach riding, preferring to stick to other tyres of trails. I've had mine down Glentress (fun) and Laggan Wolftrax (not fun - too rocky) but I'm mostly on what you might call "natural" trails - footpaths etc.
This type of thing

Good fun on the soft stuff and dunes ๐
That is a bit "Braveheart" Coast kid. Do they come in Sasanach colour schemes too?
druidh - MemberLaggan Wolftrax (not fun - too rocky)
Really? Too bouncy, or not your type of trail?
I like Laggan - on the right bike.
Maybe I was just running tyre pressures too high, but the undamped rebound seemed to work against me on rockier sections where I'd normally want to be carrying a bit of speed. It was great on the faster, flowing forest sections, rubbish on the rocky pavements.
You need a full suss fat bike ๐ seriously tho I found that annoying too.
I can confirm full suspension fat bikes are where it's at.
