I'm running a Specialized Captain Control on Bontrager Rhythm Pro rims with Bonty Super Juice. I was out and I got a 5mm split in the tyre. I rotated the wheel and it sealed. However it kept unsealing while riding so I had to keep blowing it back up to get home. Went for another test today and it still happens.
I'm planning on getting a new tyre and trying some other type of sealant. IS this what you'd do? Which new sealant? Will another brand cope with this kind of split?
Not really found any brand of sealant capable of dealing with a 5mm split. Latex with shreds (e.g. Stan's) probably the best performing in those circumstances. Personally, I still wouldn't trust that tyre and would likely either bin it or pass it on to a tube using friend.
So, yes to the new tyre, but don't expect massive improvements in switching sealants. Having said that, Super Juice is my least preferred.
I've started repairing cuts like that with normal puncture patches (glue type) on the inside of the tyre. Works great and you don't need to keep binning perfectly good tyres.
