Afternoon

Did Mayhem as a soloist and the Newcastleton thing last year. THis year - had to bail on Newcastleton due to chest infection and so am thinking SITS - is it a good one or are you buffetted out of the way be all manner of team riders and wind up feeling a bit of a nuisance?

Any views welcome.

Thanks

Paul

It's flat and boring. As a team it's fun because it's just a flat out blat for c40 minutes. I'd want a better course for a solo. 24/12?

I did SITS as a team after doing Mayhem solo in 2010 and was thinking 'I'm glad I'm in a team as riding the course solo would drive me nuts!' As said above the laps are mcuh shorter and less interesting, plus as 2010 was very dry I remember finding it really bumpy across the grassy sections which solo I think would be a risk to knackering you.

Possibly the most un-hardcore mtb'ing comment above (ooh the grass was too bumpy), but it gave that kind of shuddery ride that would make me lose it after a while.

I did sits solo a few years ago very slowly - I didn't have any great issues with faster riders. It was exceedingly dull however

It is relatively flat - but also deceptively tough (you're riding faster and the climbs tend be quite sharp) and it gets the braking bumps from hell if it's dry (rubber arms are helpful)...

It also rivals Eastnor for the worst mud in the world if it rains and then starts to clag up (2008 was the closest I have came to quitting during a 24 hour solo race).

It's less busy than Mayhem so less issue with faster/slower riders.

Thanks fellas - sounds like a trip down for the Enduro 6 before putting an entry in. Having solo'd at a v wet Mayhem I am not at all keen on the mud thing again. Was down for 24/12 but chest infection stopped play.

I really like SITS solo, mainly as it is so friendly. Yes it isn't the most technical course (although I have yet to solo it in the wet and the mud) but there is enough to keep me interested. I know others don't like the course but I suppose it depends on what you expect. I wouldn't want to do a solo on a course that is so technical I can't ride a lot of it when I am tired.
