when i first used my shimano xtr shadow plus clutch mech i had a new xtr chain on, worked a treat smooth fine and shifted both fine in the on and off mode (obviously the on mode was a little tighter shifter)...
after that chain wore, i decided to put on a new sram pc1091 chain, which i got a deal on, however the chain just doesnt want to shift in the bottom cog (10th gear) upto 9th.....
i then had a bit of a play and wondered why etc it didnt like the new chain - numerous barrel adjusts and the likes to see if that was the cause but nope....
i then put my old xtr chain back on and the shifts went back straight back to working crisply and straight away - put the new sram one back on and nope not loving shifting again, so settled back on to my older (not worn) xtr one for now
now thinking that the sram chain just isnt compatible with the xtr clutch for some reason even though both 10spd
what brands of chain are people running on this?
Can't see how the clutch would be affected by chain but then I only have a none clutch one which works fine with a SRAM chain....
hmmm - ive also used normal mechs with tonnes of brands of chain, just cant figure out why this should be different, but it definitely is the chain...ive tried it on 2 different cassettes and not altered the shifting, just literally the chains (both were brand new too)
Try this...I changed chain from a Sram unit to a Wipperman and STX cassette to an XT cassette and my bike refused to shift properly.
Undo the cable and start from scratch as if fitting a new mech/cable etc.
I did this and then everything was back to normal.
This was using an XT mech btw.
hi curvature - done this already, did the gears/tension/barrel adjusters from fresh...
it works fine with the xtr chain, but for some reason it just wont shift up smoothly with the sram one on....not the end of the world can get xtr chains cheap enough from germany just more bizarre as ive never had this on any other mech before....
I have a sram chain on my shadow plus and it works fine. I use the PC1091 ten speed hollow pin. SLX cassette
bawls! was hoping somebody said they had used a sram one and it didnt do to well, but ithink thats the same chain im having the issue on! doh!
ive tried it on both xt cassette and pg1070 cassette too, the same on both...
i have a new kmc x10SL chain so may stick that on tonight see if its any different!
if not back to shimano it is
Xtr chain here on xtr cassette. Will shift cleanly even under high torque , very impressed..
Note my high torque may not be as much as is possible 🙂
