Thinking of heading up to Settle tomorrow to ride the settle loop of the pennine bridleway. What's the conditions like up there?

Is it a decent ride or are there better routes around there? Especially at this time of year?

Looking at something reasonably easy to navigate too!

Thanks

It's a decent ride, shouldn't be bad on the whole but there will be some mucky sections with the rain and snowmelt we've had. The final descent into Settle (if you're doing it anticlockwise), and some sections up on top after the climb up Stockdale.

Personally I'd do it the 'other way around' - with the run down Stockdale Lane being the highlight, but others may disagree. Or if you do it the normal way, continue on the Pennine Bridleway a little further north to a final fast and rough descent into Stainforth instead, cross the valley and take the minor road back to Settle.

Right ok, cheers for that. WIll bear it in mind.

What other routes round there are there that will be holding up well after the snow and rain we have had of late?

Coming from Preston way so open to other ideas!!

Did you do it in the end - interested in how you found the conditions on the bit closest to Settle. I'm expecting muddy, but ready to be pleasantly surprised.
