The lighter feels flimsier and has a later serial number. I guess I could put the beefier one on the back, or should I just return it?

Hmm, not on the oustide, but inside the numbers are a bit different: 220216A is the heavier one, 220216B is lighter.

That's within +/-10%.

What's the listed weight? I've found them to be reliably optimistic.

Listed 470 (the newer tire), that's a 15% difference.

I'm struggling to comprehend why you'd weigh commuter bike tyres.

I imagine the sort of person who weighs things weighs everything, I'm quite the opposite illustrated by the fact my thought would be "this one feels flimsy, hmmm maybe there's something wrong" not "hmm this feels more substantial, maybe there's something wrong".
Takes all sorts though doesn't it.

I only weighed them as they felt extremely different and i thought maybe something was wrong with one of them. I wont bother returning it, put the heavier one on the rear.
