Is there such a thing? The Endura MT500 Burner Pant II is as close as I can get with the "3d moulded knee protection" but I can't find any in a small anywhere. Any ideas appreciated.

The three little plastic bits on the knee of the Burner pants are more cosmetic than protective.

I think Fox Defend have some actual protection, but realistically, you want some slim pads under there

Fox Defend have a 'Kevlar' reinforced knee section. I tore straight through it, first crash wearing them. The gorilla tape I patched them up with has been much more durable 😛

I wouldn't wear them without knee pads.

I wouldn't imagine many trousers have actual pads built in as there is such room for discrepancy in knee position depending on body proportions.

My Dewalt worker trousers have a pad pocket for instance but every time I want to kneel I have to hoik them up a bit to get the pad over my knee.

Maybe I should stop wearing my trousers like a teenager 😂

My defend kevlar have survived a few slides but I wouldn't trust them to do more than diminish gravel rash a bit.

What are you actually looking for? Something that will replace pads or just stop the odd bramble or small graze?

I saw some riding jeans on Ali express which took d30 inserts in the knees but all these sorts of things are aimed mainly at motor cyclists of one flavour or another.

Maybe I should stop wearing my trousers like a teenager 😂

I think you'll find a gaping bum cleavage is as important in becoming a trades person as drinking strong tea with milk and 3 sugars. Without either you're just someone with tools.

More to the point though, knee pads work fine in tight fit clothing (think motorcycle leathers) they're no use in loose fit stuff for exactly the reasons you suggest.

Thanks for the replies, something that stops grazes - the problem I have with knee pads is they always seem to fall down, which is fine in shorts but a bit of a pain when wearing trousers.

FTFY. if they fall down during riding they're too big and won't stay put in a crash so won't actually do anything.

You definitely want pads attached to you rather than the trousers - ooohhhh the chafing would be nasty!

However it also just sounds like you need some better pads

Top tip. Wear 3/4 lycra undershorts and put them over your pads, or at least the top of your pads.
Keeps them in place well I find.

@Chris_jh Have you tried fashioning some kind of suspender belt to hold your knee pads up? You could start a new product/fashion of converted lady’s lingerie and make yourself millions of £££. You’d just need the brand them as Enduro suspenders or figure out a way to mullet them and this time next year you’ll be a millionaire

Chances of finding a pair are somewhere between slim and non, I struggled to get mine when they were the current model, it's a real shame they discontinued those pants, I love mine, the newer version lacks the side of the knee protection and the mesh panel behind the knee by the looks of it, the protection was only really useful for small knocks, I use leatt airflex pro under mine and they stay put, I'm kinda doubled up on the side of the knee protection and had a couple of slams landing on my side so I'm glad I chose wisely.

Guys thanks for the replies, I have learnt Riding trousers with built-in knee protection don't exist, I'll never find a pair of Endura MT500 Burner Pant II* and suspenders are the answer, thanks zerocool! *no you can still get them in Large and XL in tangerine at cyclestore.

try the dirty rides lot -0 https://dirtyridesmtbapparel.co.uk/ they have some padding in their downhill trousers - though I would still wear knee pads underneath.
