Hi all - can anyone recommend the best way to rethread a damaged XT M8000 crank? Thanks!

pedal? You need helicoil set - with left and right hand threads (may as well do both)

If it's only the initial few threads that have gone, then I've had success by just screwing the pedal into the reverse side of the crank, effectively using it as a tap to clean up the damaged threads.

I got the famous Willy Bain in Glasgow, bike repair superstar, to fit a helicoil to an XT crank a couple of years ago. He was very up front that he hadn't seen any repairs of these in pedals last, but as it was only 20 quid, I gave it a shot.

He was right, it lasted a few months. I wouldn't bother again to be honest, there's a lot of force going through that thread.
