I don't want much, just under £50, light weight and comfortable! Current saddle is an sdg bel air which i like for comfort. Will be used for 24 hour racing and long rides.

Charge Spoon - best saddle I've had but know it doesn't suit some

Fizik do great saddles. Alternatively, Specialized do different saddle widths and the shop will measure your sit bones to determine the right width

No and no. 😀

Speaking from experience the Bel Air and the Spoon are night and day. I have both. The Bel Air is by far my favourite on my MTB and has been for years. The spoon is on my single speed commuter/training bike that I bought through 'recommendation'. That thing has some serious comfort issues, especially over longer rides 20miles+.

Personally I'd find some deals on a chromo Bel Air.

Saddles are one of those things you can't really recommend with any confidence. The best ones are the ones that fit and you find comfortable.

Sdg bel air. Most comfortable seat I've ever owned. Plus its light as mine is I beam too.

The spoon has stitching that eats through your shorts. Not good especially if you have decent bibs and they are ruined by a 20 quid saddle. I have the ragley one on all my bikes as they fit my rse great but very personal choice

Had Bel Air's and liked them.

Had a Fizik Gobi after the mags raved about them. Hated the thing and it was made of cheese.

Got a Charge Spoon and think it's ace, best of the lot. 😀

If only Charge would do a non embroidered version of the spoon itd be the perfect saddle for me.

Sadly enough I wrote to them informing them of yet another pair of Assos tights shredded by the stitching. I also requested that they might make a non stitched version. They politely told me to jog on.

Shame because its nearly perfect. Leather upper ti rails, no stitching. Sound familiar?

Speaking from experience the Bel Air and the Spoon are night and day. I have both.

My arse evidently works in both modes. Bel Air on my Five which I really like, Spoon on my hardtail which I equally like. Given the price, weight and looks, I'd have the Spoon out of the two. It feels a bit more narrow for moving around on as well.

I'd always thought the two to be similar tbh :/ Don't get on with a lot of skinny Selle Italia or Fizik Gobis, liked both these though.

Edit: Oh on the ibeam note as well, the ibeam Bel Air is a lot stiffer feeling than the railed one, didn't get on with it personally 🙁 Liked the ibeam Formula FX though.

I'm now on a Charge Scoop. Same shape as a Spoon but no stitching, more flexible and crazy comfy. Worth a try.

Spoons and Bel Airs for me. And a random Aliso with Ti rails on a bike that's now sadly unridden.
All have been great. I get that they are very different but I love them both.
Of my three Spoons there are many differences. One is brown perforated leather and is particularly comfy if a bit beat up. This lives on my CX. One is tan and the £19 variety. This is great also but harder and slippier - sometimes a good thing. Lives on dropper less hard tail. The last is black and also a cheapie but has a more suedey texture and is far grippier. Lives on dropper FS.
I tend to wear baggies and I don't notice excessive seat wear. Certainly nothing I'd want to complain about. If anything, the stitching on the brown perf Spoon is only a problem because *it* is wearing...
Charge 's new one piece saddle looks interesting but if I can get another black suede Spoon I probably will...

however

Will be used for 24 hour racing and long rides.

It's your arse, try it or stick to what you know

Ed, Merak:

You want a Gusset R - a Spoon without the stitching.

I asked a similar question some time ago - Linky.

The Madison Flux and the Gusset R Series are the same saddle- detail differences but same hull and overall construction. Some of the Gussets have no embroidering (but they're boring, you want the denim'n'leopardskin or the Bay City Roller)

Thanks guys, good advice. For the sake of £20.00 i thnk i'll have a try with the spoon. I can always swap it to a road bike or commuter if i dont get on with it.
