yes, I’ll try loads on and get the one that fits best but after some ideas.
used a met parachute for a lightweight full face for many years until it died by the retaining ratchet system breaking. Thought I’d get another but I’ve had two break within their first usage or just trying them on (on the first the retain straps came out of the ratchet dial on the first ride and the second the dial came off just trying it on - right size & not being heavy handed). After giving up on the mets ive tried the fox pro frame & bell super 2r, my head being the wrong shape for both.
now just thinking of getting a more ‘traditional’ full face as only for uplifts, playing around in wharncliffe and the odd trip to the alps but what’s the best vented and breathable models about? Also any that have some venting around the ears so things are less muffled / you feel less disconnected?
any ideas?
maybe a fox proframe ?
maybe a fox proframe ?
As above, tried the pro frame - medium painfully small, large too big even with the biggest pads in and could easily slide it off my head
I've got a bell super with the removable. Chin guard. It's much lighter than a normal full face.
I also have a carbon specialised one. Lighter than my previous 661.
I would rather crash in the proper full face so I've almost never ridden with the chin guard on the bell. For warn cliff I get sweaty in the full face

Giro Switchblade here. It felt bulky at first after my Fox Flux but now I barely notice it.

Had forgotten about those, so will give one a whirl. Also have just seen the bell have brought out a super 3r DH with a new ‘headshape’ so will try one of those as well.
The curses of having a head that 59cm circumference and therefore exactly between medium & large for nearly every helmet manufacturer!
You tried specialized full facers?

Used to have a specialized deviant years ago which I liked because all of the venting, but they don’t appear to make them anymore. Any particular suggestions?
The Leatt helmets look pretty decent as well.
The switchblade is a bit of an iron pig isn't it?

I don't think that unique to the Switchblade, any of the newer style 'enduro' helmets look like ass.
I'd rather get a little bit hotter and sweat a bit more in my D3.
Kali carbon full face. Deffo the best I have ever used
Just doing this in anticipation of an alps trip as my old 661 is showing its age.
Also just over 59cm bonce so on the borderline of sizes.
Mrs Rock is fed up with large boxes from CRC around the house but here’s my two-penneth worth, based on what I have tried (not ridden in).
Fox Proframe, light and airy but immediately uncomfortable around the forehead.
Giro Switchblade, very very comfortable but I just couldn’t use it in open face mode, too much helmet going on so sort of defeated the object of having the conversion facility.
661 reset, bit of a bargain but it felt too big on, no venting and the shape was odd.
Urge Archi Enduro, nice helmet and a good price but in my static test, (working at home wearing it for a duration, it has started to pinch at the forehead). Regrettable as it a very nice helmet and that open chin bar is very breezy.
Bell Transfer 9, surprisingly nice helmet and a good fit. This is on the “keeper” list at the moment.
Bell Super DH, fantastic bit of kit, the medium fitted great for me when the super 2 and 3 didn’t. Haven’t bought it though as they only had the fasthouse colours in medium and it was just too much to punt on a helmet.
Now sat wearing a Giro Chronicle bought from a German retailer. It’s a large and it might be too big, I think, but I can’t remember what a decent full face should feel like, not so snug as it constricts but not too slack it slips around. Good spec and I paid £120ish, comes with MIPS and a camera mount. It’s on the keeper list at the moment.
Also tried the 661 Reset, it of a bargain but I didn’t like it, it felt like too much helmet on the head, maybe due to the odd shape of the shell. Very little apparent venting so I had concerns about the heat when climbing in it.
Update, I’ve given the urge another test wear and it is actually now feeling OK.
There is a great big void in the padding around the ears which I expect would make it run quite cool.
Its now been promoted to the keeper shortlist and the Giro is looking less likely due to sizing.
bel super 2r, just wouldnt fit my head, gutted as i wanted the bobba fett version
went for a parachute, nice & breezy, for a full face, tough, survived a few stacks, retention system slightly annoying
^^ was nicked, so got a proframe (hunt around deals exist on them) almost as well vented as the parachute, but comfier, better retention system, feels more solid, generally a better helmet, graphics are a bit loud, but im down wit da yoof
Not much help to you, but i'm getting on really well with the Fox Proframe. Used it for tweedlove last weekend and it was completely invisible on the descents. A touch warm on the climbs (in pretty warm weather, with my goggles up blocking the big forehead vents) but bearable, especially with the cheek pads popped out.
I still think the D2 is the nicest looking bicycle full face helmet ever produced. Same as Hob Nob it's all about the look for me. I'm not dumb enough to ever do climbs wearing a full face though so the venting thing isn't really all that relevant to me.
As an update, tried a number of other helemets and ended up with a giro switchblade and would heartily recommend them. Great fit and very comfortable for me, fit is adjustable with the roc-loc tensioning which looks far more substantialy made than on most helmets (typically where they fail for me), very well vented and feels far sturdier & robust than most of the lighter weight full faces (more skin to the fox pro-frame). Good auditory input when using it as vents near the ears so no feeling isolated. Removing & refitting the chin bar is a doddle once you get the nack. Looks like a standard full face with chin bar on, more of an acquired taste with it off, but as I essentially just wanted a very well ventilated full face I’ll leave it on 90% of the time. Giro do a traditional full face, the disciple, which has a fixed bar, is almost a well vented, cheaper but no rock-lock fitting which is also worth checking out but I couldn’t find a medium in stock anywhere short notice
thanks for the input
Update part 2.
Ive returned the urge as the interior started to itch and there remained a pressure point over the forehead.
Bit of a curveball, but I’m now dry testing a Specialized Dissident Carbon from cycestore.
Was £350, paid £127 or so.
Very nice piece of kit.
