I currently have a Camelbak Daystar which is slowly falling apart so I need a new one. I want one with pretty much the same capacity- around 20l cargo and 3l water- it must be reasonably short to fit a girl and it must have some way to carry leg and arm pads, either with side compression straps or straps on the bottom.

I bought a HAWG and it would have been perfect but it was too long and kept knocking my helment over my eyes when descending which is not ideal.

The new Daystar is ok but not ideal for carrying pads. Is there anything else out there that I should have a look at?

Ergon make specific ladies packs. They're very nice as they hold the pack away from your back.

I'm a big fan of the Vaude/Deuter packs with the mesh back system. Keeps you cooler and there are versions with adjustable back length.

Seem to be much more stable than usual Dakine/Camelback systems.

No idea if they do female specific ones though - ( would that be pink? 😉 )

Some of the Osprey packs are available in different back lengths. The Manta looks good but expensive.

Osprey, all the reviews have been great and they come in different sizes as avdave2 said. Would love an Osprey pack but my Daystar shows no sign of falling apart even though I've had it for years.

How about Dakine Apex?? Not women's specific, but lots of adjustment in it. It fits my short narrow (female) frame quite well. It's got the full-face carry, and straps on the bottom, etc. Check it out 🙂

Er, no Euro, it quite clearly wasn't. I'm off to take a shower, for some reason I'm suddenly feeling like I've just been somehow violated. See ya!

Get a Camelback, don't think they can be beat by any of the other brands

Mrs rsvktm here, I've recently bought a Camelbak L.U.X.E. (2010 model with the D rings) which is the female version of the HAWG; it has 10l cargo & 3l water and of course is female specific, no knocking the helmet on downhills and with enough storage for all day rides.

I really liked the LUXE but it's not big enough. I know the answer is probably to carry less stuff but I think I have the right level of spares and emergency stuff. Whilst not being especially heavy, it is bulky so I reckon I need the full 20l. Camelbaks are great but they don't seem to appreciate that some women carry body armour and like full days on the hills. Dakine seem to have got this but I can't find any details on dimensions on their website. They seem to have the edge for the moment.

I really like the look of the osprey pack.......dead keen to try one on. I know they are expensive, but a good fit and a functional bag that lasts would be worth the money to me!
