How do you know if your cassette is past its sell by?

Wait for the gears to start going?

When a new chain jumps about.

Or you could just run the drivetrain into the ground and only replace when it starts skipping, but that would mean new chainrings, chain, cassette and possibly jockey wheels.

Measure the chain. <0.75% worn = a new chain will mesh with it.

>1% means a new chain won't mesh. All according to Park.

When the chain will only sit on about 2 cogs cuz all the rest are buggered, then you know it needs replacing ๐Ÿ˜€ .

+1 measure chain

If you replace the chain when its at .75 you'll be able to run 3-4 chains per cassette, if you don't, you'll manage one cassette per chain...

I'm getting what feels like chain slip when pushing hard...and the chain and chain ring is new

I've got a new cassette, but visually there's not too much difference

5th sprocket looks knackered.
for what it's worth, it's an SLX, not an XT anyway.

It's tough to tell by eye. If it's slipping that's more telling than any chain measurement.

Found myself in the same position week before last.
Thought I'd gotten away with it as the cassette appeared to be only slightly worn but I was too late.

Decided to put the old chain and chainrings back on and get some more wear out of them before stumping up the extra for a new cassette.
