the finish is pretty industrial, so does it need polishing?

somebody mentioned baby oil rubbed over the frame, but i'm not sure if that's a good idea or not?

also... wear patches... any point? obviously, there is no paint to wear through, but will they protect from wearing through the alloy itself?

cheers

You certainly need wear patches because the Aluminium will still rub away in time.
I can't quite make out if there are scratches in the frame from the picture, but if there are, you will need to cut back with a finer abrasive paper. Probably p1200 to p1500 will help to remove these. Then you need to buy a cutting compound/polish to further remove those finer scratches and buff back to a shiny finish. Lots of work but you could use a polisher/machine to make it easier.
Good luck!
