The wife's new Titus FTM Carbon has arrived, and all the bits for the build are en route (inc 2nd attempt at the headset.....). All the cables are internally routed through the front triangle. Gear cables are fine, but any ideas/experiences of internal brakes hoses? Should I completely drain them down, or plug and go for it?? Dot5.1 and paint (or skin) does not get on well, so I imagine carbon/resin/lacquer are not too compatible either......
I think your worrying too much, plug em for piece of mind.
It's not like a gallon of brake fluid going to leak out & a drip or two shouldn't destroy anything (nowt come up on a google search anyways).
Otherwise those 'accident' laywers would be all hovering around waiting for brakes with carbon levers to fail. 😉
Ox,
what was your solution for Headset ? Did you just go with Oneones expensive one ?
Ox - I had the same thought exactly but I figured as I have already had to detach the hose from the caliper once to remove it from my old frame, after re-attaching it on the new frame it would probably benefit from a full bleed through anyway. Having said that no oil was lost so you probably could get by with taping the end of the hose and risking it.
I was more concerned with the idea of helitaping the carbon frame especially where the cables exit at the headtube, and it damaging the paint / peeling it away from the carbon weave when it came to renew it? Never had a carbon frame before not sure this is of major concern? Have bought some Paragon tape and was going to test its strength first.
isnt the internal routing down a tube ? if so, that tube would stop anything dropping on tubes internally.
Sorry, work got in the way of 'concentrating' on bike builds. I foolishly ordered a Hope tapered reducer headset from On-one which will be going back this weekend. Bit annoyed about this as was ordered with frame and the on-one chaps said nothing, even though I spoke to them several time's wrt the frame's arrival date (getting hassle from 'er indoors!). Some good threads on mtbr.com inc a link to a page on the Titus website which clarifies exactly which headsets are compatible with the FTM Carbon and X Carbon Frames

The bike will be running std 1 1/8" forks so have ordered a 40 series Cane Creek combo with 52/30 lower race from Wheelies.co.uk. Awaiting delivery info from them and CRC.
My concerns come from last weekends fitting and break hose cutting episode (Shimano XT) on my bike (5.5 EVP 😆 ) which ended up with fluid all over me and the garage floor. I have done this before and have a vague idea what I am doing, so probably should just man up and get on with it. There is no internal tube/guide for the cable routing and need to get brake and gear lines through the same hole, so am anticipating a fair bit of wiggling.....
