[Closed] Push or vorsprung coil conversion?

Morning all,

So my Lyriks won't stop the dreaded packing down, despite me servicing them and changing the air spring to a debonair one. So I'm assuming I've got a scratch on the inside of the stanchion allowing air to pass from positive to negative side.

So, makes sense to coil them...

Which kit to go for?

Anyone running one? Thoughts?

I'm running a simple coil (reckon being skinny helps me), but if I was going posher its the Vorsprung that would be getting my money. All the info I've read makes me think it's more up my street with the hydraulic control rather than parking another air spring in there.

How have you done a simple coil?

I'm baulking at the price of these and a cheaper solutuon would be ace!

CR Conception kit. Had one in my Pike that I sold with the bike, then got a second hand one through this very forum. It's not "cheap" but its certainly a lot less than the 2 kits you mention!

Just had a look at them. Thanks!

Is that that French bloke basically working out a shed?

I like the look until I read "keep your top cao for progresivity". I might be assuming wrong but basically is he saying you can preload air into the chamber to have an air spring as well?

If that's the case then the lower slider on it needs a seal, completely negating the point of a coil to remove the friction from that seal?

Or have I misunderstood the badly translated gumpf?

Nah no air spring. He just gives you a spacer for under the original cap and you can vary preload accordingly using his spacers and/or 35mm Rockshox ones

I can’t really tell what sort of setup he’s got. He pushes the “made in my house” line but is then able to produce full-brown DH forks..... must be quite a home workshop!

I'd go for the vorsprung one if it was me but I changed forks and no longer feel the need for a coil at the front.

the fork compressing a bit won't matter at all. if you are happy with the performance I wouldn't bother changing anything.

Poah, it's packing down over a course of an hour or two until it's sitting further and further into it's travel. Means on a long ride I need to reset it 3 or 4 times. Or generally at the end of a very long decent.

There's definitely an air migration. You can pull it back to the equalization point and it sucks and goes back to normal.

Having changed the air spring I can only assume it's a scratch on the inside of the stantion... unless there's anything else can cause this?

Grease in the equalization port is bollocks, might cause an isolated incident but this is consistent.

I've got the vorsprung kit in my lyrik, I'd definitely recommend it!

Nope not in warranty, bought used forks to save cash as I went £800 over budget on my frame... false economy that turned out to be!

Jakehinton... mind if I ask what spring weight set up you chose/how heavy you are and how you find it?

I was between a 40 and 45lb spring, I weigh about 150lb. I went for the 40lb spring and I think it was the right decision.
They feel super plush now but with decent mid stroke support as well. The bottom out adjuster works really well, I tend to just add a few clicks if I'm riding somewhere like bpw where I'm going to be doing drop etc.
All I would say is check the installation instructions before ordering as I hadn't realised I was going to need a few tools I didn't have.

I bought my Lyrik Vorsprung kit from TfTuned a month or so ago, it came pre assembled so I didn’t need a few of the tools mentioned above. I’ve not tried the Push but I’m very pleased with what I have, supportive and plush over sustained rocky descents.

Another Vorsprung user here.
Easy to fit and a big improvement to my 36.
I was never happy with the initial stroke and feel of them on chattery stuff.
Now much better but still with plenty of support.
I initially fitted the medium spring they recommended for my weight/travel then tried the softer recommendation and have stuck with that and a couple of clicks more on the bottom out resistance.
Going to order another for a longer travel 36 I have on another bike and will go with the softer option again for the spring.

Running vorsprung on my bike, think TF had an oudated chart as I ended up with a 45lb spring at 145lb and I've not gotten anywhere near full travel yet. Even with that sub optimum spring it's a massive improvement on the air spring (for me and the riding I do anyway) - loads more grip and confidence on the front. Caveats - I am running a FAST 3 way damper in my pike and that made things a lot better even when I was on air. Have also changed geo on the bike and put a coil on the back, so there's a fair bit gone on, but I'm very happy with it so far.
