As per the title, anyone using problem solver travel agents with mini Vs on a cross bike (road brake levers)? I'm looking for a bit more bite from my brakes. In theory mini Vs should be fine, but ...
Any reason not to do this?
I went down this route but then got lucky on ebay and scored a set of spooky cantilevers for about £8... They are easy to set up, stop me as well asthe mini v's and I can get the wheel off without having to let the tyre down.
If you're gonna use problem solvers, you might as well use full sized v brakes, no?
No you're thinking the wrong way round.
Mini Vs require less cable pull than full sized V brakes. Road levers don't pull enough cable to work with full sized V brakes that is why problem solvers came about.
Road levers pull enough cable for mini Vs, but I'm thinking that problem solvers may improve the force that can be applied (even though tehy are technically not required).
As above, you can run mini-vs with road levers directly without any probloems solvers as I have done for many years.
Though I'd recommend getting an adjustable noodle to take up any slack in the cable when pads wear etc. - there isn't any other way to do it apart from undoing the cable bolt.
PS Campy levers work better too as they have a cable release switch in the hood to allow you to get enough slack to undo the noodle.
The relatively cheap XLC mini V's i had were super powerful. Are the brakes ok? I had some that came stock on a Genesis Day One and the pivots rusted pretty quickly and they were awful.
Mini Vs are ok, most of the sets out there use nasty pads, good pads will make a big difference.
If you want to try problem solves/travel agents, Roses bike do a version branded as extreme for about half the price.
Having done cantis then Minis recently i picked up a pair TRP Ti V's (CX9's IIRC). They really do work. Better so far than the BB7's i had before, a lot less hassle to live with.
I've tried mini v"s, v"s with travel agents, avid cantis, frogglegs and then avid ultimates which have been the best by a long way
As above travel agents are not req for mini V's with road bike levers. Well I have no need with either Dura Ace levers or Campag
As SpeshPaul said the TRP mini V's are tremendous with my campag groupset and I will get rid of my er poverty V's and put TRP's on the other bike to YES they are worth the money
Charlie the bikemonger has some genetic mini Vs which are cheap. I have found them excellent on a tourer, much better than cantis, but would also recommend adjustable noodles.
